Summary

"Forge alliances. Gain powers. Save the realm."

In the realm of Valion, a war is fought between the vile demons of the under-realm and the mighty scions, mystical beings with the power to wield super-human abilities. It is a war that turns cities to ash, that leaves the very land itself ravaged and uninhabitable....

The scions fought valiantly, but even with their powers they were no match for the demonic horde. With the realm in ruin and no one to oppose them, Valion’s dark forces set their sights on a new world...Earth.

Now, fierce dragons rule the skies of North America. Savage hordes burn and pillage the world's great cities. Civilization sits on the brink of total collapse. People have been forced to end their lives of convenience and pick up swords in a bid for survival. Rian Asher, a young man chosen by fate, must form an unlikely alliance of heroes from both his world and theirs to fight against the growing darkness in a battle that will decide that fate of the realms.

The scions must rise again....

Got Potential !!

How does one review the first book of a series which have not been written yet?
This is a whole new genre for me so I listen to this audiobook twice to understand it whole and if it wasn’t for a great narration twice probably wouldn’t have been enough.
So about the audiobook, it’s the first and got the potential to become a great series, so I hope.
The author Darren Hultberg Jr chose well picking Sean Duregger to narrate this book, perfectly done narration each character sounded just right bringing life to them all.

I truly see no reason why not to recommend this audiobook,
So I am recommending!!!

And now I’m waiting for the series to keep going, and I am hoping that it will be sooner rather then later.

In exchange for an honest review I’ve received this audiobook.

An enjoyable action packed adventure

Overall I enjoyed this book, the characters are like able, the story is paced nicely with the story telling broken up with action scenes. The story had enough twists in it to keep you guessing all the way through and the narration was done to a high standard. Whilst this may not be one of my favorites in the genre I will certainly be keeping an eye up for any sequels.

An immersive experience

This book is that rare thing; a fresh spin on the fantasy genre. Darren Hultberg Jr.'s tale is an engrossing, exciting story vividly brought to life by the considerable vocal talents of Sean Duregger. I greatly anticipate the next instalment in the series.

Solid

There's a lot to like about this book, both audio and story wise.

Story wise, it's fun, engaging with many characters to get to know and like. Also loved the D&D feel/references within the story. I will say that there were times that I wished for a tad bit more, but it was well executed.

Audio wise, the narrator is talent, and did well at protraying the many different characters within it. Though, it did sound if he struggled with the Darion character.

overall though, extremely fun world, concept, and storyline. I will definitively be looking forward to the next one.

Very good first in series.

A well told take by a narrator that fits the book. I received this audio book free and voluntarily reviewed.

It just kept getting better!

I honestly want sure if I'd make it all the way through when I first started this one. The narrator's timing and voicing made me cringe for the first few minutes. He got better, and I got used to him, but he didn't help the story any. Thankfully, the story didn't need him to help it along!

It started with the odd experience of not liking the MC but connecting with him anyway, because he didn't like himself. This character was different than most, in that he had to learn to cope with his insecurities long before he came into any power. I very much enjoyed watching this character grow. By the end, I was completely into the story and cheering him on!

This was a great take on post apocalypse fantasy, and I look forward to seeing where the series goes as more magic and other races come into play. It's definitely worth a listen, just give yourself time to get used to the narrator.

Was skeptic at first ended up loving it!

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, all that was asked of me is to leave an honest review.

The story was just a great adventure leaving me wanting to know whats comes next around the corner in this twisted events of fate. At first I was thinking oh this will be just another oh shit my worlds gonna end fantasy, and it was slightly cliche and predictable but I loved it all none the less and will be buying volume 2 soon to see what the story has next in store for us, very exciting! The narrator did an excellent job, never seemed monotone in his reading adding great inflection depending on the scenario, really drawing you in. I love the various maniacal laughs and emotion raised during dramatic moment and the individuality of each characters voice, except for maya and a few other females that sounded the same. My biggest grip is his voice for 75-80% of the female characters were rather high pitched and nasally sounding roughly the same, sounding rather forced to sound “feminine” I enjoyed his voices for the old lady in the beginning and the high ranking necromancer but I wasn’t found of maya, candice and the mysterious woman who all sounded somewhat similar. That being my only gripe I loved his narration of the book and this was a great listen. I will definitely listen to this again in the future!!

Good read.

I'm new to LitRPG so I don't know if this qualifies. I've read/listened to about 8 or 9 books now. I'm used to fantasy like LotR, Sword of Truth, Shannara, Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, etc.
If this is LitRPG, it's the best I've listened to so far.
That aside, Darren Hultberg, Jr did a good job introducing a new world. I hope he shows how Earth has changed with the merging of the Realms.

Fantastic!

I absolutely loved it. The story drew me in right from the beginning and I was hooked. Lots of action, memorable characters and mystery made me not want to stop listening. I really look forward to Book 2 in the series. Sean did an amazing job narrating. His voice is easy to listen to (which is important when you're listening to a book) and fit the characters well.

When worlds collide what will be left of ours?

An involuntary joining of realms. The evil of another realm has found a way to join our world to theirs and potentially eliminate all the good of their realm overwhelming ours with evil. Hero’s will rise, civilizations will fall, what will be left of our realm is uncertain. You must listen to find out what will become of the realms. Really great story with some unique properties. Nice

I really liked this book. I'm a big fan of literpgs and coming of age tails so it felt like it was made for me. Excited for book 2.

Shannara meets Planescape

The events of the book really gave me a feel of what the apocalypse in Shannara could have been like at the table with folks playing Planscape or D20 modern. Overall it is enjoyable and worth the listen. I’ll be revisiting this one for sure.

The narrator does a good job of conveying the story and emotions. Chapter 1 was a little rough in spots but this quickly disappears after the initial chapter.
