Story
From Genesis to Revelation, the providence of God directs the entire course of redemptive history. Providence is “God’s purposeful sovereignty”. Its extent reaches down to the flight of electrons, up to the movements of galaxies, and into the heart of man. Its nature is wise and just and good. And its goal is the Christ-exalting glorification of God through the gladness of a redeemed people in a new world.

Story
John Piper’s newest book will help Christians think about thinking. Focusing on the life of the mind helps us to know God better, love him more, and care for the world. Along with an emphasis on emotions and the experience of God, we also need to practice careful thinking about God. Piper contends that “thinking is indispensable on the path to passion for God.” So how are we to maintain a healthy balance of mind and heart, thinking and feeling? Piper urges us to think for the glory of God.

True life for the follower of Jesus really is a moment-by-moment trust that God is dependable and fulfills his promises. This is living by faith in future grace, which provides God's mercy, provision, and wisdom - everything we need - to accomplish his good plans for us. In Future Grace, chapter by chapter - one for each day of the month - Piper reveals how cherishing the promises of God helps break the power of persistent sin issues.

Yet so many people struggle with prayer - a struggle that the author himself has shared. This wise and inspiring book is the fruit of those struggles, offering a real and glorious vision of what it can mean to seek God in prayer.

Paul sends 1 Corinthians to the church at Corinth, and when they receive the epistle, they are livid! They immediately write back to Paul in very harsh terms (the letter from Corinth has been lost, but Paul alludes to it in 2 Corinthians), prompting Paul to get on board ship in Ephesus, sail to Corinth and address the church in person. It is not a pleasant visit. When Paul gets back to Ephesus he has second thoughts about his “short but painful visit”, and he writes 2 Corinthians to smooth things over.

Story
Assurance of faith is the conviction that one belongs to Christ through faith and will enjoy everlasting salvation. It is more than believing the gospel - it is believing that these truths apply to you. Having assurance affects life in more ways than forgiveness of sin, alleviation of guilt, and salvation from the punishment of hell - it affects your whole being, firing up your affections for Christ, your unshakable trust in God, your burden for the unsaved and your joy in life and even death.
Summary
The Bible reveals glorious things. And yet we often miss its power because we read it the same way we read any other book. In Reading the Bible Supernaturally, best-selling author John Piper teaches us how to read the Bible in light of its divine author. In doing so, he highlights the Bible's unique ability to reveal God to humanity in a way that informs our minds, transforms our hearts, and ignites our love.
With insights into the biblical text drawn from decades of experience studying, preaching, and teaching scripture, Piper helps us experience the transformative power of God's word - a power that extends beyond the mere words. Ultimately, Piper shows us that in the seemingly ordinary act of reading the Bible, something supernatural happens: we encounter the living God.

Book was great, narrator was mediocre
The book was another masterpiece by John Piper. However, the person the had reading the book in the audiobook formatting was mediocre. He did not convey emotion, and Piper is a very emotive pastor and writer, so the narrator did a disservice to the book, to Piper, and to the listener.

Top Five Recommendation for Counseling
One of my favorite verses in the past year has been 2 Corinthians 3:18. "And we all with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord are being transformed into the same image..." Piper points back to this verse time and again in this book on how to read the Bible supernaturally. As we read, we ought to be beholding God's glory so that He can supernaturally transform us more and more into the image of His Son. This brings joy and victory in so many areas of our life. To any counselor I train just as to any believer I encounter, this book will be a top recommendation because understanding how to read the Bible is crucial to our transformation in godliness. God's Word is to be treasured as a collection of jewels whereby we learn to better see Jesus, and in turn, experience the joy of His presence and power.
The audio version is very well done. I enjoyed the narrator a little more than the prequel book, though both are still enjoyable to listen to. I enjoyed the prequel, but found this one more to the message I desired to learn. Piper has blessed me so much with the spiritual gift God has given him for teaching, and this is one of the prime examples of this.

Not What I Hoped For/Expected
The book, in the three chapters I listened to, failed to do what I felt its title described: discuss the supernatural with connection to the Bible... in any form. I love apologetics, and this was more what this book was. Incredibly disappointed. I actually want my money back.
