About this listen

Raised by a Narcissist: That Woman aka My Mother

This is my raw and deeply personal memoir—a journey through the emotional scars of growing up under the shadow of narcissistic abuse.

In this gripping account, I lay bare my painful experiences with a mother who withheld love, manipulated, and controlled me—leaving wounds that shaped my very identity.

Through vivid and heart-wrenching storytelling, I take you into the depths of my childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.

A home where affection was absent,
Achievements were dismissed,
Gaslighting and grudges ruled daily life.

As I navigated the complexities of rebellion, survival, and family, I found rare solace in the small glimmers of love I received from others. Yet, my ultimate battle lay in breaking free from the cycle of trauma and reclaiming my sense of self.

This memoir is not just a story of pain—it is a testament to resilience.

Raised by a Narcissist: That Woman aka My Mother is for anyone who has endured toxic family dynamics and is seeking validation, healing, and empowerment. My journey proves that breaking the chains of abuse is possible—and that we are more than the wounds inflicted upon us.

If you have ever questioned your worth, doubted your memories, or struggled with the echoes of a narcissistic parent, I hope this book speaks to you.

With raw honesty, vulnerability, and an unwavering voice, I share my truth in the hope that it will resonate with you long after the final tick.

Healing begins when the truth is told. Are you ready to reclaim your story?

Trigger Warning: This book discusses themes of narcissistic abuse, emotional manipulation, and childhood trauma.

A concise account of a demoralising situation to be in, especially as a child. The book simply but clearly brought attention to an Adults possibly suffering trauma cascading it down on their vulnerable children. What Serena went through emotional, mentally etc could not be encapsulated in one book. But you are given a clear sample of what life was like under the shadow of an inept parent. To survive, function and not repeat the cycle of behaviour is an uncommon achievement that all can learn from. An excellent account leaving you wondering “What more, what more were u feeling, experiencing Serena ? “

Thought provoking !!

An excellent read touching on the effects of growing up in an environment where a parent who should have been your greatest friend was your worst enemy. A very educational book

The premise of this book seemed quite promising, however it did fall flat for me for many reasons. The length of the book could and should easily be double especially in the content matter, and the level of detail within each attests to the shortness of the book. Insights to the mothers behaviour is quite vague and quite surface, never really goes in depth. Which is a shame. Coming from a similar cultural background, and quite similar parentage so I know what I am talking about...I kind of wish I used my credit on a title that was a little bit more established. This title barely scratches the surface and I would even go far as to say this needs revision, its still in the manuscript stage. With the greatest respect to the author as I want her to do well and take this as constructive criticism
