Summary

He wants to claim his mate. She wants to catch a killer. Neither saw the other one coming....

Welcome to the future. In post-apocalyptic America, humans are protected by the Stone Society, a species of Gargoyle shapeshifters. Rafael Stone is the king, and his clan has ruled the Americas for over 700 years, unbeknownst to humans.

Kaya Kane is the New Atlanta Chief of Police. At 36, not only is she the youngest but also the first female chief the city has ever had. She has dedicated her life to keeping her city safe. When all evidence in a multiple homicide points to the elusive Rafael Stone, Kaya cannot figure out if she wants to arrest him or climb his large, hard body.

Rafael's kind has never mated with a human, but just speaking to Chief Kane on the telephone nearly brings Rafe to his knees. Kaya has given up on ever having a relationship because of her career. When the two meet, sparks fly. Literally. When someone tries to kill Kaya, Rafael has no choice but to show his true nature.

INTENSE READ

Utterly fantastic book to read all the way though I was on the edge of my seat. Wanting to know what happens next. Such a intense book I loved every minute of it. I can't wait to get started on the book two. I've already got this book in my Kindle Library but I started to reading the last seven chapters at 10.30pm and it's now 5.37am . I couldn't put it down it was that good. You've got to read these books if you love shifter romance books.

An excellent introduction to this paranormal world

Rafael is the first book in the Stone Society series and an excellent introduction to this paranormal world. This novel is about the Gargoyle shifters and was the first book I read with Gargoyles. Faith Gibson did a fantastic job creating a new world for us to enjoy and I really loved the concept of this series. The storyline was intriguing with romance, mystery and some suspense and I was hooked from beginning to end. The main characters were likable and the author gave us so many secondary characters I can't wait to see how they all interact in the overall series. This novel was a fabulous read and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of paranormal romance.
The audiobook version of this novel was narrated by Mace Earl Finn. He has a deep voice that was just perfectly suited to the gargoyles. His pace and timing was excellent and I enjoyed listening to him narrate this novel.

Good storyline

There was parts of this book that I didn’t understand straight away but it all fell into place in the end. Good strong characters and a good storyline.

A good start to an interesting series!

In a chaotic world where gargoyles exist, hidden behind the guise of being human, the gargoyles are facing two potentially fatal situations. The gargoyles are committed to protecting humans from the unholy, evil human clones created by a possible madman. Meahwhile gargoyles also face extinction as the female of their species seem to have all but died out. Then, in New Atlanta, there are 11 murders and the king of gargoyles, Rafael, is a prime suspect. When he comes across the chief of police, he finds himself instantly attracted to her. Is she his mate? Can gargoyles and humans mate?

I really enjoyed the concept behind this series. Being the king, Rafael will probably be a key character in the series. But, as this is the first book, there is less focus on the romance between the king and his mate and more emphasis on the groundwork required for the onward momentum of the series. I think it will be exciting. Thank goodness Rafael has a lot of cousins and brothers to work through! That means there are probably going to be lots of books to look forward to.

Mace Earl Finn does a fantastic job of narrating this audiobook. He has a deep voice that can take on a gravely undertone where appropriate, which is ideal for a gargoyle's more beastly dialogues.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Rafael

Mace Earl Finn can narrate any thing for me... that voice so perfect for Rafael . Oh yes will listen to Mace Earl Finn again..

I have never listen or read a Gargoyle shifter book before... I am loving it.

Rafael and his family have ruled for hundreds of years and have kept their shifter secret all this time. Never having mated with humans.
It just take one phone call with Kaya Kane a human and he knows she is his mate. When they meet ,sparks fly. Kaya
feels drawn to him and agrees to see him even though technically he may be a suspect in her case.

We have action and suspense, and it involves many sub-plots which are setting the scene for more to come. Several of the characters involved in the story are keeping secrets and some have decisions to make which will affect not only their lives but the lives of others.

Rafael character is strong and powerful , he is loved and respected by everyone in his family to Kaya he is loving and gentle but willing to die to protect her. Kaya for her part is strong and independent, but is she strong enough?
