Summary

A BBC Radio 4 dramatisation starring Philip Madoc as medieval monk and wily sleuth Brother Cadfael.

After the violence of civil war in the spring, Shrewsbury has enjoyed a quiet summer and a good harvest. But, as Cadfael reflects ruefully, such a peaceful state of affairs cannot be expected to last.

He's right. The trouble begins when Gervase Bonel, rich lord of the manor, proposes to sign all his property over to the Abbey. A welcome gift, but when Bonel is found poisoned, foul play is suspected somewhere along the line. Cadfael is sure that the obvious suspect is not the right one, but are his powers of detection strong enough to lead him through the maze of clues to the truth?

CADFAEL AT HIS BEST

Excellent production, well acted and with great background soundtrack that adds atmosphere taking you into the world of Brother Cadfael as he fights for justice in another murder mystery. I have all 3 Cadfael dramatisations and live in hope that more of these excellent stories will be released. PLEASE 😊

Never disappointed with a BBC dramatisation

Monk's Hood which takes place in the troubled times of Medieval England when two warring factions are trying to seize the throne and relates the mysterious murder in the village where Brother Cadfael lives the Holy life. He administers helpful potions and as a sideline resolves murder puzzles. As always the BBC do an excellent dramatisation with a full cast of wonderful actors and you can listen to them over and over again. Highly reccommend this.

Another Excellent Adaptation

Phillip Madoc makes the role of Cadfael come alive. I'm looking forward to more of these adaptations becoming available.

Can't get enough of Cadfael!!

The BBC Radio adaptations of Ellis Peters' Cadfael mysteries make for great listening! The top-notch cast is very engaging and features exquisite narration by Michael Hordern. Philip Madoc as Cadfael is excellent, even for those of us who have enjoyed Derek Jacobi in the British TV series adaptations.
Though Monk's Hood is one of my favorites, I'm certainly hoping very much for more of the BBC Radio Cadfael mysteries to become available.
