Story
During the last few months, former bounty hunter Rachel Morgan has been rather busy. Having escaped relatively unscathed from her corrupt former employers, she's not only acquired a vampiric room-mate called Ivy, faced werewolf assassins, and battled shape-shifting demons, but she has also found the time to pick up a boyfriend (even if he is only human) and to open her very own runner agency. But cohabiting with a vampire, however reformed, has its dangers....

Story
'I didn't realize he was a werewolf at first. My nose isn't at its best when surrounded by axle grease and burnt oil....' Mercedes Thompson runs a garage in the Tri-Cities. She's a mechanic, and a damn good one, who spends her spare time karate training and tinkering with a VW bus that happens to belong to a vampire. Her next-door neighbour is an alpha werewolf - literally the leader of the pack. And Mercy herself is a shapeshifter, sister to coyotes.

Story
When magic is up, electricity dies, cars stall, and skyscrapers tumble; when it's down, phones and guns work, and defensive spells can't protect your house from the creatures who stalk the streets. Equally dangerous are the competing factions of The Pack - a highly organized and military clan who governs Atlanta's were-bears, -wolves, and -hyenas - versus the Masters of the Dead, power and knowledge-hungry necromancers whose minds control hordes of blood-crazed vampires.

Anna desperately needs her new mountainous home to be safer than the life she's left behind. Summary
From New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison comes the first book in an exciting urban fantasy series. Packed with the perfect balance of wry humour and thrilling action, it will delight fans of thrillers and fantasy alike.
Rachel Morgan is a white witch and runner working for Inderland Security (I.S.) in an alternate world where a bioengineered virus wiped out a great deal of the world's human population – exposing the existence of the supernatural communities that had long lived alongside humanity. For the last five years Rachel has been tracking down law-breaking Inderlanders in modern-day Cincinnati, but now she wants to leave and start her own agency. Her only problem is that no one quits the I.S.
Marked for death, Rachel will have to fend off fairy assassins and homicidal weres armed with an assortment of nasty curses. She's a dead witch walking unless she can appease her former employers by exposing the city's most prominent citizen as a drug lord. But making an enemy of the ambiguous Trent Kalamack is just as deadly as leaving the I.S.

Good but felt a little hollow
although a very enjoyable story, there's quite a lot of occasions where you have to suspend belief as the main character makes some very odd choices that don't seem logical. Whilst she is likeable, she makes a lot of assumptions that i kept waiting to trip her up but never truly did. I unfortunately found the narrator a little grating which didn't help but that's a personal preference.

A great start to a fantastic series
I absolutely love this Author and her series of books. Having purchased them in paperback I am overjoyed to be able to ‘read’ them on the go. The series is set in the modern times on a parallel to the world as we know it, except for some massive differences such as Pixies, Witches and Vampires living alongside the Humans and Tomatoes (to some anyway) have become reviled.
This first book introduces us to this world and the characters living within but has a great storyline and sets up the rest of the series, be advised you do need to read in order – give it a go and I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Great to re-enter the Hollows again!
Where does Rachel Morgan: The Hollows (1) - Dead Witch Walking rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's probably in the top 25, bearing in mind my top two series span 13 books each...
What other book might you compare Rachel Morgan: The Hollows (1) - Dead Witch Walking to, and why?
It sits on my bookshelf next to Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld [start with Bitten] and Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden [Start with Fool Moon] and consider them to be similar but individual.
Have you listened to any of Marguerite Gavin’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I have a few performances by Marguerite Gavin, personally she's not too bad to listen to, but i'm not American and do find it a little grating hearing some of the accents. For some reason, when I read I don't hear accents as such.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Jumps to conclusions and kicks ass.
Any additional comments?
I already own the paperbacks of these and the kindle editions too. But lately I have little time to read and can fit in audiobooks. I have found myself, more and more of late, continuing series in Audio, as the great expense of a hardback hits my budget. My audible account is paid for by my family as a gift each year, so find this a great way to still get my series fix :)

Entertaining
Have read the physical book of this before but years ago and thoroughly enjoyed listening to this version. The narrator was very good and kept the story moving along, especially in the tenser situations. I might question the decision to give ivy a fairly low expressionless masculine voice at odds with her described appearance but otherwise all good.

Enjoyable series
I listened to this series about 5 years ago, and the recent release of book 14, American Hunter, prompted me to listen to the whole series again first before listening to that. It really is a good series, and I’m glad I didn’t just have a rose tinted memory. I really like the Kate Daniel’s series and Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews, Jane Yellowrock series by Faith Hunter, The Others series by Anne Bishop, Imp series by Debra Dunbar, and Crossbreed series by Dannika Dark. If you like those, you’ll probably enjoy this series too. They’re not all quite the same feel as each other, but all enjoyable in their own ways.

Has possibilities
I generally like series which develop over time following one hero/herione as the story develops such as the Jane Yelllowrock Harry Dresden Mercy Thompson type of books and am always on the hunt for new ones as I reach the end of them
This popped up in my suggestions and so I tried it
At first book there is hope I have found another series. This book is flawed but the heroine and her friends are likeable enough and I will definitely be giving book 2 a listen soon
The good - I like the characters, it has a decent enough plot and even the baddie is likeable in a way, Narration is good but not outstanding
The bad - Rachel makes some strange decisions which are infuriating there are some contradictions a few of the plot twists are not really believable ( I know a story with witches vampires demons etc requires a suspension of disbelief but this is something beyond that )
Hoping that as the series grows the writing gets better but will find out no doubt in the coming weeks

I loved this series
If you could sum up Rachel Morgan: The Hollows (1) - Dead Witch Walking in three words, what would they be?
This is a modern sassy series, fun and entertaining. As I remember I preservered with the first book but loved the rest of the series.
What other book might you compare Rachel Morgan: The Hollows (1) - Dead Witch Walking to and why?
I think its a stand alone, it's part dectective, part adventure, part witchy and some romance. I ended up loving Rachel, Jinx and Ivy
What does Marguerite Gavin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I really enjoyed Marguerite's narration of the series
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Once I progressed probably to book two I had to listen tot them all. When I found a gap in. The series I read the book on iBooks as I wanted continuity
Any additional comments?
It would be great to get ' A Perfect Blood' to complete the series

Good enough story
What made the experience of listening to Rachel Morgan: The Hollows (1) - Dead Witch Walking the most enjoyable?
I'd say the vulnerability of the main character, the story was also well written.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I cant say i think the narration threw it off for me, maybe if i read the book i would have a favourite character.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
There was something off with the narrators voice it didnt quite match the character. And she didnt quite pull off the other characters either, I dont know how to explain it but just lowering your voice and making it deeper doesnt cut it for me. I think that if the writer had a different narrator one that actually matched the characters then i would've actually really liked this book, but i just couldnt get past this deep husky pretend voice, or her actual voice for that matter.

Oh how I love this genre but...
This author is a hack. I put this book in the "airport" category. A book that you can read/listen to when other things are likely to distract you. I would never buy anything by this author again.
