About this listen
The United States of the mid to late 19th century was a stage for the African American’s call to reform. Ferdinand L. Barnett, today better known as the husband of anti-lynching crusader Ida Wells Barnett, felt the urge to contribute his words to this great cause in this speech delivered in 1879. He preaches for unity among African Americans and the end of divisions caused by violence and jealousy, so the strength of a community can aid in racial uplift and equality.
