What if damnation is the price of true love?

Innocent blood has been spilled on the steps of the Council Hall, the sacred stronghold of the Shadowhunters. In the wake of the tragic death of Livia Blackthorn, the Clave teeters on the brink of civil war. One fragment of the Blackthorn family flees to Los Angeles, seeking to discover the source of the disease that is destroying the race of warlocks. Meanwhile, Julian and Emma take desperate measures to put their forbidden love aside and undertake a perilous mission to Faerie to retrieve the Black Volume of the Dead. What they find in the Courts is a secret that may tear the Shadow World asunder and open a dark path into a future they could never have imagined. Caught in a race against time, Emma and Julian must save the world of Shadowhunters before the deadly power of the parabatai curse destroys them and everyone they love.

Wonderful Ending

Heartbreaking and hopeful. It's a magical and very flawed World but the depth of the characters both new and old continue to make this book one hell of an ending. The whole trilogy has handled such complex issues including sexuality, gender, bigotry, racism and autism with an empathetic understanding of life's diversity that it's just shows how much Clare's writing continues to grow and flourish. I very much look forward to seeing what happens next in the World of Shadowhunters and Downworlders.
James Marsters narration as always is a delight to listen to.

She delivered

Clare 100% delivered. I laughed, I cried and I still wanted more after 30 hours of audio book. I’m looking forward to whatever the next book will be.
I’m glad they’ve kept the same narrator for more than one book (a rarity!) and Marsters’ voice really brings it, I think his range is great.
All round excellent and I think it’s as good a last book in a trilogy that I could have asked for.

Great performances!

Sometimes the voice used in an audio book can be enough to turn you off a much loves book. The opposite is true in this case! James Marsters indeed switched from English to American to Spanish to Mexican accents most convincingly! That increased my enjoyment! Of a great book!

A trilogy that can not be missed

I was sceptical about a follow on to ‘The Mortal Instruments’ series. I worried that the magic of the original story could not be genuinely continued without feeling like it was just a cash in. My scepticism was misguided. This book is amazing, this trilogy was amazing. Cassie once again proves she has an amazing talent for weaving worlds and for writing truly engaging characters. As for James Marsters I have to say that he is by far the beat reader the Shadowhunter’s books have ever had. I hope and pray that when Cassie gets around to finishing the series with her final trilogy that James returns. JAMES MUST RETURN.

Tl:DR - Highly Recommend

Wow

Cassandra Clare has a great way of ripping out my heart and the slowly knitting it back together over the course of her books. And this was no different. The highs the lows were equally spectacular. I need more!
