This is a brilliant telling of the story of a little-known Queen and life at the court of James VI of Scotland. I found it absolutely fascinating and was completely drawn into the story. In fact, I literally struggled to put it down. The characters are superbly brought to life, and Tony Riches has managed to make history feel exciting, accessible and thoroughly entertaining. This is exactly the sort of historical fiction I enjoy. Ruth Urquhart's narration was the icing on the cake for me. Her soft Scottish voice was absolutely perfect for the story, with just the right amount of drama and emotion to bring the characters and period to life. A highly recommended listen. I'll certainly be checking out more of Tony Riches' work, and I’m really looking forward to the rest of this trilogy — hopefully with Ruth narrating!
