Mark Galeotti is one of the most insightful and incisive analysts on Russia’s past, present, and future. It is always difficult to write about contemporary events in a historic way, yet Galeotti does so with wit and drive. This is a deep book and some times the orders of battle are confusing. However as an analysis of Putin and his armed forces it is written by a paramount authority. It should be on the reading list of anyone interested in Putin, NATO and Europe. I commend this work as an accessible guide to the complexity of Putin’s Wars.

David Sibleys speaking was fantastic but that does not take away the absolutely brilliant writing of the book. I strongly recommend this to anyone who thinks they really understand the current issues in Russia.

Very interesting learning about what makes Putin tick. I find him fascinating. I would love to have a conversation with him in english and tell him that not all westerners are bad.
