I absolutely adore LJ Shen. I discovered her book The Kiss Thief only 5 weeks ago and have since read it twice along with the 4 hot head books & midnight blue which I loved! BUT I just couldn’t get into this one. I’ve tried a few times to come back to it but something just isn’t for me. No idea what, it just didn’t grip me like the others.

I love this author's writing and could feel the reality of her words. So Bittersweet! It took me right back to those good old days of trials and tribulations of first love!

I always enjoy LJ Shen's books, and this novella really made for a great listen. Unlike the authors many other excellent books, this novella is semi-autobiographical and tells the story of the author's first love. This novel captures so vividly the hopes, fears and world of a teenager around the turn of the millennium. I felt oddly pulled into reminiscing about that time, but also reflecting on my own youth, and those things we have hangups about.

This is the story of Lara and Alex. How they meet, how they spar, how they grow, and how they fall in love. A dream of a book for me, real and fun, honest and full of youthful spirit. I recommend to lovers of YA/ NA fiction.

I thought the narrator was excellent, she really drew me in.

This is a love story with punk attitude that is both angst ridden and endearing. Heart felt excitement of first love, first kisses and confused emotions. Teenage kicks are hard to beat. Five stars.
