A bad book about wine and whine
- By Damian Cunniffe on 29-03-19
Summary
"Police, what is your emergency?"
"They're in the house and they're going to kill me..."
My name is Marco and I am flawed. I know that. And I was fine with it until it cost me my family. Now, I'll do anything to get them back - even see a therapist. Which is a joke, because I am a therapist. At least I was before I was fired.
Now, with nowhere else to go, I've had to move out of the city and into the house I inherited here, in the idyllic fishing village of Porthcove, but only for as long as it takes to sell it.
Because something isn't right about this place.
You see, I need the money, so I've started seeing some of the locals, you know, as patients, but I tell you, there's something really disturbing about charming neighbors sharing chilling secrets. And it isn't just that. It's the other things. Strange, inexplicable things. It started with odd smells, creepy sounds, and then the intruders...oh God, the intruders.
Now, a child has gone missing, the police are asking questions, and I'm starting to wonder if they're right. Maybe I can't be trusted, but you should come and see for yourself; there's something seriously wrong with this place. It is something hideous, terrifying, and it's been here the whole time, just waiting to devour my hope, my sanity and maybe even my life.

What a story!
Where does Psychosis rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It is right up there for me it has all the elements of a good thriller.
What did you like best about this story?
Inevitably everyone who posts a review will have their own take on this, but for me the best thing was trying to unravel the plot.
I really enjoyed that element of the story.
Have you listened to any of Rosko Lewis’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Possibly his best to date.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh but also made me angry many times.
did it make me cry? yes it did.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed hearing the character's voices, and the writing style.

Psychosis didn't disappoint
As you would expect from a novel, the setting of the story takes time but is interesting and well thought out. The author has obviously spent time developing the characters and the plot and it shows in the quality of the threads that run throughout the book. I enjoy the story immensely and the dark and disturbing twists I hoped for delivered and kept me wanting more. One minor negative point, the language is blue to put it mildly but its obvious intended for an adult audience.

Robbed
I purchased this after buying another book in the series- haunted. At the beginning of the book it advised purchasing this one first as haunting apparently follows on from it. So like a lamb to slaughter I willingly obliged. Now I have two books sitting in my library, this one, which I have tried my hardest to persevere with, and haunted, which I have zero confidence I will enjoy so probably won’t bother listening to. What a waste of two credits. Like others have said, this man is supposed to be a therapist, however his character is that of an uneducated player. It took 9 (!) chapters to even hint at something supernatural occurring (I had to check if I downloaded the right book after I’d reached chapter 7 and found no indication that the storyline was related to the description of the book.) I finally gave up after the reaction to the ‘supernatural’ occurrence was similar to how I would narrate a (not remotely) scary story to one of my young sons. Ooooohhhh... there’s a light on... I’m sure I didn’t leave it on... oooohhh... spooky!! Honestly.

Wow!
I started this with slight trepidation due to the mixed reviews and I totally understand why some people were unimpressed. It’s quite a while into the book before the story really begins to unfold. However, I was hooked right from the start and was fascinated to learn how the story progressed.
The author clearly researched his topic and I can’t wait to listen to the next book. I’m sure we’ve all had ‘what if’ thoughts at some point!
Highly recommend this author and will definitely be checking out his other books.

Oh my! Wasn't sure where the story was going to go, which made it more interesting. What's real and what's not. I think I lost a bit of my mind along the way 😁 A fantastic read, starts off slow and builds gradually. Looking forward to 'Haunted' 5*

Horrible !
I am not sure why this book has so many positive reviews. This book is horrible and doesn't make sense at all. This makes me wonder if the reviews on Audible websites are even real. The reviews are so misleading. I wasted my credits on a book that is so long and so boring and most importantly does not make sense at all.

Not what I expected
I listened to the second book of the series first, not realizing it was not a stand alone book. I was excited to listen to the first because I really enjoyed “Haunted”. However, it became quickly apparent that this book, Psychosis, had content that was sexually graphic. It was unnecessary to carry the story and I found it quite offensive. I did not finish the book. Also, the narrator was wooden, and did not enhance the story like the narrator for Haunted.

Page turner twists, despicable, empathetic char
Get into the mind of a real jerk as he twists and turns to battle his way through a life he has totally screwed up, as he escapes to seaside sanctuary. Things gear up to be too good to be true, but he ignores all warning signs, and fails his way through a morass of things he should do but puts off, until he gets the fright of his life. But why does nobody else see what he does? Enter the psychiatrist, and another battle for truth ensues, with hopes for a happy ending. My greatest disappointment was the ending, when the author had a unique opportunity to end with a paranormal shock, and chose a psychotic end instead. A real shame, for it would have gotten a 5 star rating from me, with an enthusiastic urge to read the book!

Worth the Read
A lot of the bad reviews say that the story doesn't make sense, but this book is written from the perspective of an unlikeable person going through... wait for it... PSYCHOSIS. So yeah, surprise, it can be convoluted and sometimes doesn't make sense. Honestly though, I thought it was a really good book. Initially I found it really hard to connect and empathize with the main character. The oversexualization of women was a HUGE turn off and I almost put the book down. However, I stuck through and the author does a really good job of unfolding a story that explains the psychosis without justifying the unlikable characteristics of the antihero. Also, you do see some redeemable qualities as the story goes on that makes it a little more bearable. This book utilized a lot of tropes you see in psychological thrillers but was still able to surprise me.
Not a huge fan of the Narrator...

The book is definitely not a one star as some have directly or indirectly stated but it is long and could probably be half as long without huge losses to the plot or story line. That said If I had wrote it, I would be very proud of it.
