Summary
Prof. van Dusen und Hatch hatten sich kurz, aber kriminologisch hochinteressant in Schottland (s. "Whisky in den Wolken") aufgehalten. Auf der Rückreise nach London entnehmen sie der Zeitung, dass ein Bekannter, der Maler Frederick O'Connor, im Old Bailey wegen Mordes vor Gericht steht. Wegen eines angeblich grundlosen Mordes, wie der Staatsanwalt behauptet. Van Dusen tritt als Zeuge der Verteidigung auf und löst auf seine brillante Art den Mordfall, indem er das Geheimnis der zwei Schüsse aufklärt und schließlich einen überraschenden Mörder aus dem Zylinder zaubert.
