Summary

You have been chosen.

Those four words change Violet Spencer’s whole life, when against staggering odds, she's selected in the "princess ballot".

Arbon Academy is affectionately known as the school for Royals. Only the rich, powerful, or heir to a throne gain entry...except for the one scholarship student accepted every five years. It's a worldwide lottery, and one that Violet entered without giving it any serious thought.

But the media got it wrong, and Arbon Academy is much more than a simple college for future leaders.

It’s a dark world of politics, intrigue, and dangerous guys who will stop at nothing to get their own way. Despite her best efforts at remaining off the radar, Violet finds herself a pawn between two of the most powerful monarchies in the world.

Prince Rafe of the Switzerlands and Prince Alex of the Australasias are bitter enemies both on the soccer field and in the political arena. Monarchies rule the world now, and every waking breath is a competition for the princes.

Control the ball.

Control the world.

Control Violet.

Whether it's through love or hate, someone will ultimately win.

This is book one in a dark college romance. It includes a-hole princes, nasty princesses, and one chick who will take none of their sh!t, all the while doing her best to make it out alive. HEA guaranteed. Eventually. 17+.

review on trilogy

book 1 was excellent, Book 2 was not as good, Book 3 what a shame.
i have never seen a trilogy go down so much in content and story line, this started off so good and ended up so unrealistic that it ended up being a total waste of time. The narration was excellent and saved book 1 and 2 Book nothing could save the ending to this series.

What a ending

I really felt fit Violet at the end of this book and I want her to get her revenge. Alex and Rafe are similar and yet so different. I know who I want to win her heart can’t wait to read book 2.

Yes!

I love that they use two narrators to actually have a conversation and instead of just narrating different sections And each trying to mimic the other gender. Makes it so much easier to listen to and get engrossed in. Downloading the next installment now!

Poor to Rich School

Violent goes from being an orphan cycling out ofvthe system to being told that she won a full scholarship to a rich private privileged school. Once there she's picked on right away as the charity case, but ginds friends with two Royals who take her under their wings. This is an excellent bully romance and ends on a cliffhanger.

Slow building romance and fun setting

As much as I enjoy romances and reverse harems, the best part of the book for me was the dystopian world. I'm not totally sure how it got the way it is, but the way the countries are divided up and all ruled by royalty was so interesting. I hope we get more information about it in the next book.

This book introduced characters but left a lot of questions still. We know Violet grew up bouncing around foster homes, group homes, and maybe times of homelessness. I'd like to find out where she learned to fight and why swords are a big thing in this world and I'm expecting answers in the sequels.

The ending had an interesting reveal, but ended a bit lackluster for me. Jumping into book two to see what else Violet finds out.

mediocre story, good reading

Why do so many books in this genre like to make America into a monarchy?

I mean, I know it's to facilitate the process fantasy with a girl the feels familiar enough to American girls to protect onto. but also why.

anyway. it feels a little weird that college students are still pulling this dumb teen drama stuff, but fine. with the included sex stuff, even if it would be realistic for teens to be that horny, I know that wouldn't make it teen- demographic friendly.

matty and nol are def the best part of this book. I doubt it'll happen, but my ideal ending for Vi is for her to end up romantically with both of them (as a v ofc, she'd be the hinge.)

the suspense wondering about why everyone dislikes Alex, and subtle red flags and other things that just seem Off about him, is largely great. less enthused about the other love interest that starts off immediately as a bully and a dick, but I think that's part of his appeal to the author and a chunk of the target demographic, and this is aimed at adults, so... I'm not gonna bother with moral hand wringing.

the "climax" of the book is def a turning point, but... doesn't actually feel climactic, and then the book just Stops. it doesn't end, it just stops in what feels like the middle. I have run into this a few times lately, and only lately. I used to, as a kid, be bothered by how stories ended wrapped up in a nice little bow, and intentionally sought out one with messy endings. this... isn't that. it's not really a cliffhanger either, despite ending en medias res-- there's no clear question being asked. "what will she do now that [x]?" isn't a clear question. I don't know if it was publisher pressure or what, but it feels like I've bought half a book, and half to pay up again to get the next half, rather than a new story with some over- arching elements as a sequel should be. I'm largely glad I bought this on sale.

I am curious enough to consider buying the sequel while it's also on sale. got a few other books in the genre when I got this one, so I'm not-- well, I'm not sold on it yet, lmao. but... well, while I enjoy the stupid teen drama-- even if these people are supposedly 20-24-- I'm not sure I'd at I actually _enjoy_ this book. it's interesting to compare and contrast stories within the princess &/or academy romance genre with each other, and to mine them inspiration in my own writing... because nothing quite motivates me to write as much as irritation and spite do. "look, stop, just let me do it," is probably the prevailing emotion I got from this book, if I'm honest.

the narrators had no issues, they were all great, even with a few patently ridiculous lines. characters within a gender were easy to tell apart, I'm not sure if each major character had a separate voice actor or not, I don't want to check and lose what I've already typed here. but that's often an issue for me, being able to tell who is speaking, bc I have audio processing issues and sometimes can't figure out where in a sentence it's stated who is actually talking.

great story and great narrators!

Shane East is a fantastic narrator. I could listen to him all day. Vanessa Moyen is great. I love how she brought Violet to life. I will definitely be looking for more audibles that are narrators Shane and Vanessa. This story is great. it pulled me in from the beginning. Violet is a kick as character that will not take anything laying down. Such an interesting storyline. An orphan girl that seems like got the greatest gift of all only to find out there are so many secrets. I really like Alex. He is sweet and seems misunderstood. Rafe is a jerk but it is really hard me me not to like him. Can't wait to see what happens next.
