Summary
Find the truth; risk everything. A gripping WWII spy novel full of intrigue and peril from a modern master.
1942: a German spy comes ashore on a desolate stretch of Lincolnshire beach. But he is hunted down by a young detective, Richard Prince. The secret services have need of a man like him....
In occupied Europe, Denmark is a hotbed of problems for British intelligence. Rumours of a war-ending weapon being developed by the Germans are rife. Sent to Copenhagen, Prince is soon caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Dodging Gestapo agents, SS muscle and the danger of betrayal, his survival - and the war effort - hangs in the balance.
Gripping and intense, Prince of Spies is the first in a new espionage series that will delight fans of Alan Furst, Philip Kerr and John le Carré.

Other reviews have blamed the narrater but what anyone is supposed to do with the books clunking unbelievable plot and stereotyped one dimensional characters I really don't know. It kind of struck me it was like someone had programmed a computer to writ a ww2 spy novel.

A bit boys own adventure. .. but easy and addictive listening.
Reasonably straightforward goodies versus baddies. But the description of the ins and outs of the ww2. Spy business interesting. Good character definition and I cared about all the main characters. Definitely give it a go. I’m going to try the rest of the series. Happy reading.

Ghastly narrator!
Alex Gerlis writes enjoyable spy stories so why let a a ghastly narrator loose on his stories? Please, please get a better narrator. I’ll listen to the next Prince story, though, just because I want to follow up on the story line. Just hope the narrators attempts at accents and his stumbling narration improves. Such a shame as it could be a put off for future Gerlis fans.

The most frustrating reading I have ever heard.
Ive had audible for 4 years now and this is the first time I’ve been moved to review a book negatively. The book and characters feel a bit one dimensional, but to be honest it’s difficult to know if the book itself is any good, because it’s almost impossible to listen past the terrible narration. It splutters and stutters along in a stop start fashion that’s like listening to a 6 year olds reading homework. It’s very tiring to listen to. And the less said about the accent work the better…
It really isn’t good.

No depth
Characters are bland, 1 dimensional.
Story is mildly interesting. Some of the ways that trouble is avoided was creative. But there characters don’t draw me in. Prince’s family situation was a nice touch, but then it’s pretty much a non factor for the rest of the story.
