We had 20 short years of peace. Twenty years to put worlds back together. Twenty years for Captain Vin Husher to convince us the aliens would return. We didn’t listen. Warmonger, we called him. Washed up, we called him. But now, the enemy has returned, with high-tech weaponry well beyond anything of which humanity has dreamed. If Husher and his ragtag crew can’t manage to stop them, they will smash us.

Captain Keyes is loved by the public but hated by Command. He captains the UHS Providence, an aging supercarrier and the last human ship not dependent on dark tech - technology humanity has used to rule over the galaxy since barely defeating the Ixa in the First Galactic War. Dominance has come at a cost. Over the decades, old allies have grown resentful, and when dark tech itself fails, Captain Keyes’ predictions start coming true: those old allies are now enemies.

Story
In the twentieth century Earth sent probes, transmissions and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy.

As a sci-fi author with a hit TV show, I have a few ideas about what alien invaders are supposed to look like. In my stories, they’re technologically advanced monsters, with tentacles, and no faces. Turns out I was right about the technology. And about how angry they’d be. But the way they look is more terrifying than even I could have imagined. They look exactly like us. Because they are us.

Summary
The Galaxy's Never Had It Darker
Armed with new tech that could revolutionize space combat, Captain Husher must now try to convince the Interstellar Union to implement it in time to defend against the godlike Progenitors.
When a new alien ally shows up in the galaxy, it’s a mixed blessing. Their military might could prove a boon to the war effort, but what secrets lurk in their past, and how might they shape galactic society for centuries to come?
It's a lot for one supercarrier captain to contend with, especially when tensions are escalating aboard the IGS Vesta herself.
Husher can only stand on his well-worn principles:
Do right by his crew.
Do right by the galaxy, even when the galaxy fights him every step of the way.
If death comes anyway, make it an honorable one, and make it count.

Start as you mean to go on
The first book may have been a little slow to get going, but this second book more than makes up for it.
Finally, Captain Husher has gown a backbone in his dealings with the politicians. That said, I don't think I can quite come to terms with a floating city come warship, but, hey, it could happen.
This is definitely a series worth following and I look forward to the next instalment.

More of the good stuff, with a 'but'.
Pride of the Fleet is the second book in the Ixan Legacy trilogy, the military scifi series written by Scott Barlett. The Interstellar Union is pressed by their new enemy, but they are holding on. A new alien species make their entry, and they quickly ally with the union, lending them more firepower, but they themselves also have their own agenda. Unfortunately, the enemys capability of shifting in and out of our universe still proves hard to fight, and Captain Husher is doing his best to figure out how to fight this new way of warfare, and figure out a way to destroy the progenitor threat once and for all.
The writing style and audiobook narration by Mark Boyett is unchanged, and still very positive. This book has more action compared to the previous entry, and is more akin to the first trilogy, Ixan Prophecies, and dials down the politics a bit. That being said, the politics now moves up to a different level, which suited the story very well. Husher now has his ship firmly under his command, mostly, and now his problems are on the galactic scale, and this was nicely done and very exciting to listen to. He now has problems with a pro-Sapian (Humans!) uprising, that are very fascist in their beliefs and actions, and while this wasn’t the most exciting part of the book, it was blending in very nicely since it was playing on themes introduced in the first novel.
The middle part of the book was clearly the weakest IMHO, in part of the fascist uprising, but also because the book introduced a secondary plotline, a new enemy, and new characters, all from Scott Barletts Mech Wars series (I assume). If you’ve read those books, you probably new exactly what was going on, but for one like me, it was a bit uninteresting. I didn’t know the characters, and this new enemy, and both were lacking quite a bit in depth, simply because I was missing their introductions and backgrounds. The author did a very good job intermingling them with this trilogy, but for new readers I recommend reading the Mech Wars series before reading this one, to get everything out of it. It was VERY clear a lot has happened that I didn’t know about, and while I had an easy time following everything, it just presented way too many questions, especially with regards to the new superpowered enemy which, fortunately wasn’t mentioned very much.
My second complaint is that our main enemy in the series, Thot, is really very uninteresting this time around. He’s evil for the sake of being evil. Fortunately he is not the main focus for most of the book.
The book ends with a giant cliffhanger, so if you read this one, you’ll automatically want to read the next one too. :P
Again, did you like the previous entries in the series, you will also enjoy this one. I will say though, that despite not having listened to the Mech Wars series, I do recommend that one read/listen to those first, as you will get most out of the story. It can be listened to independently though, and still be enjoyed.
I received this audiobook for free in return for a review. I have no affiliation with the author, the narrator, the publisher, or their pets (Although I am sure the latter are quite nice!).

Pride of the fleet
Pride of the fleet is the second book in the Ixan Legacies trilogy so if you haven't read the first yet go back and pick up Capital Starship or this book won't make much sense.
Right at the end of the last book we learnt that Jake Price would be returning to the story with his team of mech pilots, I was really looking forward to seeing how the mechs would fit into the story and how and if Price and Husher would cross paths.
I really can't go into much detail about this book without giving away some minor spoilers, so before I do let me say that I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to fans of the series it's got action as well as space politics and the characters we know and love feature in plenty of arcs which will come to a conclusion in the next book.
*** Spoilers ahead, turn back now ***
Last chance....
So Price and Jake's paths do cross and as we all hoped begin to work together, there are many challenges that the crew have to face including some of the political tensions which came to light in the last book. These parts frustrated me as I was listening as it really seemed like whatever Husher did he couldn't win.
There is more of the same infighting in this book including quite a large battle against an unexpected enemy which I really thought was very downplayed in the book and needed much more significance placed upon it. It may come back around in the next but for some reason I think we have heard the last of it.
I've already got the next book queued up and ready to go, looking forward to seeing how it ends.

A captain fighting against all odds- and surviving
Talk about the galaxy's darkest hours! Well in this, the second book of the Ixan Legacy, it's not the galaxy and all of humanity, and many other species: It's our whole universe!
Fortunately ( or unfortunately) we find out this Universe is just one of many in the multiverse. But some of these other universes are full of some very, very bad actors!
In Pride of the Fleet, the embattled captain Vin Husher of the IGS Supercarrier Vesta is fighting on all fronts: He has the IU, the Interstellar Union led by a being who despises and opposes Husher (and to some extent all humans). He has an enemy called the Progenitors, who turns out to have a secret that will just blow you away. The civilians on his ship, who despite the fact that the Vesta is a warship they want to live happy and safe lives, hate his guts and think that he is prejudiced against all non-humans. But Husher is able to see that these people are in fact behaving in a prejudiced and bigoted and discriminatory way even as they descry his motives. And then there's the REAL enemy, Teth, the Ixan, who's back and badder than ever, with new military tools that are literally chewing up the Vesta and all the worlds of the galaxy. He's really not having a great day.
At least his buddy, the Ixan war criminal from the last war whom Husher is funding to develop new military hardware, has figured out how to fight fire with fire, and give them a fighting chance.
Husher is really on the rocks here. Outmaneuvered by a government-affiliated member of his own crew, he loses his command. But an act of heroism on his part shows the IU government that what he has been warning them of is true, and they reinstate him - for now.
Things are not all hunky-dory yet. Those who despised him have left the Vesta, but the new people that support him are just as bad on the opposite swing of the pendulum. And they are going to get worse.
This is a great, acton-based, human story of impossible choices in impossible situations. Mark Boyett continues to do an excellent job voicing the characters in a near-flawless narration. His voice characterizations of humans and other species, genders and personalities really shine through and give lots of life, action, and believability to this gripping, fast-paced edge of your seat 2nd volume of the Ixan Legacy.
So reset your occulenses, buckle up, and get ready for battle in Pride of the Fleet. Just be aware that you're not going to want to stop here, you're going to feel compelled to read book 3!

A universe at war.
Picking up shortly after the end of the first book, Pride of the Fleet, the second book in the Ixan Legacy series, finds are heroes dealing with the fallout of their last battle. Despite there being an obvious external threat, the various factions within the collected government seem almost hellbent on destroying themselves as they teeter on the edge of civil war. Once again I enjoyed how real the various political factions felt, often mirroring the infuriating squabbles we witness on a daily basis between real world political parties, where the parties are more concerned with 'winning' their point of view than dealing with more concrete threats. There is a ton of action in this one, and that ending. I could completely picture that..in fact if it were a movie I could imagine them just ending with a shot of a certain character, no dialogue would be needed.
I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Great But Mech Entry Was Surprising
Great follow-up book in the series, loved the action and Mark Boyett is an outstanding narrator.
I have not read the Mech Wars books, so the insertion of Jake and the 'comic book like' Mechs was a bit sudden and off-putting to me, seemed more like an injection of fantasy than science fiction in some points.
This book still made some fairly heavy-handed political points, which was necessary as a follow-up to the previous book, but still might be a bit off-putting, especially if you are strongly on the other side from this (I am not but noted it nevertheless).

Political Philosophy Across Universes
Disclaimer: I received a free code for the books in this series, but the only impact that had was to influence me to actually write a review. It had no impact on the review contents. This review is for the Ixan Legacy series books 1-3, not each individual book.
This author brought to mind Terry Goodkind and Ayn Rand. Not has heavy-handed as Rand, certainly the soliloquies were not as long (thank goodness), but it seems the intent of the books was to promote a particular philosophy/political viewpoint in an entertaining fashion. And it was entertaining. I had no trouble getting through the series, and was actually curious to see where some of the characters went and how it all turned out.
The characters were a bit thin in spots. The climax seemed to be a little "deus ex machina" in a couple different places. Overall, it was enjoyable and it might cause people to think a little more than a sci-fi space opera usually does.

A step, may, a LEAP forward!
A giant leap forward in the series with a fantastic cliffhanger to set up Book 3. As much as I liked the protest timelines in Book 1, their relative absence in this book made for a tauter, more dramatic story. Great battles, intrigue, and characters were the rule in this one. Really looking forward to Book 3, and now I absolutely have to go back and listen to the Mech Wars series to find out more about Jake Price and Gabe Roach.

Stress, tension, and incredibly high stakes
Book 2 picks up shortly after where book 1 left off. There is stress, tension, and incredibly high stakes. There’s a good chance of the enemy destroying or ruining life as we (or they) know it, and yet, society still wants to bicker and fight amongst themselves. The coalition government seems intent on ignoring the real enemy and tearing itself apart. All of this while hamstringing the military and trying to suppress scientific advancement that the coalition government needs to win this war. I loved the introductions of the mechs and I think I’ll need to listen to Mech Wars in order to get to know the characters better. The narrator does a fantastic job with this book. He handles several alien voices and multiple earth accents very well. Overall, it was a great story and I’m looking forward to book 3.

The Action escalates, the plot thickens
This sequel is more than "more of the same" from the 1st excellent installment. More story line twists and turns, more action, and more characters entering the stage. This is my kind of action adventure, in Space! The narrator continues to impress.

great story and powerful meaning
I love it. listened to it twice already. Mark boyett is my favorite narrator so that helps but these books don't really need his help. love how it's relevant to today's society and the speeches given by the captain are outstanding. thank you Scott Bartlett and Mark Boyett

Heavy on action
This book never got boring and had many parallels to current events in our world. Sometimes I like all of the technical background and explanations. Other times I just want a fast moving story with a lot of action. I can take those leaps of faith in regards to the theoretical stuff like the multiple universes or popping in and out of subspace.
