Summary

Since its immediate success in 1813, Pride and Prejudice has remained one of the most popular novels in the English language. Jane Austen called this brilliant work "her own darling child" and its vivacious heroine, Elizabeth Bennet, "as delightful a creature as ever appeared in print." The romantic clash between the opinionated Elizabeth and her proud beau, Mr. Darcy, is a splendid performance of civilized sparring. And Jane Austen's radiant wit sparkles as her characters dance a delicate quadrille of flirtation and intrigue, making this book the most superb comedy of manners of Regency England.

Pride and Prejudice

The narrator made the book sound cheesy and comical in an sarcastic way. For a novel that is cherished by so many, and can be quoted with a weight in so many chapters, sentences, and characters...! This narrator sounded juvenile, as if a child playing with her dollies under a table acting out the book she found in her mother's night stand. I am quite disappointed and if I could I would have given the review a zero.

This woman has the worst reading voice

This woman has the worst reading voice I've ever heard. I couldn't stand hearing her voice for more than a minute and asked audible for a refund.

The Narrator Ruins The book

If you want a beloved story read by an overly animated american accent voice by all means have Patrica Hynes read this to you like you are a third grader resulting in the story having no grandeur. I hastily bought this. Buy the version narrated by Rosamund Pike. She played Jane in the 2005 movie of Pride and Prejudice which has approximately 13,800 ratings averaging 5 stars. This narrator sounds more suited to narrate a Nancy Drew Mystery.

Rip off

I suppose this would be a great book--if I could hear it all. I paid full price for this book and only received the first three chapters. I have found no way to get the full book so I am, as you can imagine, rather disappointed. It says "eleven house" but it was closer to one.

Such a terrible accent

I hated the narrator's accent and she spoke too fast. I wish I did not buy this version. Terrible.

Great & classic story, reader has room for growth

This was actually my first time getting the whole of the story, having only seen movies before. I thoroughly enjoyed the character development and imagery.

The narrator, (who is not Patricia Hynes as the label suggests) quite obviously young, was almost a deterrent from staring the book. He (I think) did a decent job being expressive and making a distinction between character's voices, but other areas could be improved. A lot of characters came off as whiny, which became a little annoying. Pronunciation and sentence emphasis in some areas was rough enough to be distracting. And anytime the word "Shire" was read, it was obviously dubbed over as if it was omitted in the original recording... also very distracting. Keep working on your reading/acting skills, kid. No doubt you'll be great.

Overall, I payed less than a dollar for the audible version so I'm certainly not complaining. just trying to provide helpful and honest critiques.

can't handle the reader's voice

The reader's voice is like nails on a chalk board to me. He does a good job at voice fluctuations and changing of pitches to express characters' monologues but I can't take hours of that voice. Too high pitched and squealing for me. Wonderful story, a classic.
