Summary

Needed to be longer.
My feeling is the story needed to be longer. I liked that the main original characters were involved from the Honor series. And I liked the new characters for the love new romance interest. But felt it fell short in both areas. The new romance was not developed for long enough and finished quickly without any conflict, or even a "I <3 you" moment - maybe that's the next book. The Cam, Blair interactions did not travel on a long enough roller-coaster to hold strong intrigue. This leaves the suspense as part and the threat from the villain on the President. Here it was very well done, and the writing in this book is very inventive, crisp and detailed around this plot. Radclyffe continues to grow in this area, as a thriller writer, with a nice twist to the ending. But as a romance it felt it needed more. The narrator Abby Craden did an excellent job, and her style and voice works very well with this series, able to cover both the harsh villains, action, and tender moments,.

An oldie but a goodie
This is the usual tale of wasp lesbian survival in the face of adversity. Despite the fact that Radclyffe's writing has improved in this novel, it is frequently made amusing by her use of inappropriate/ott adjectives, adverbs and her clumsy, clichéd turn of phrase. Thank heavens though, Radclyffe has departed from her usual habit of padding of her stories with repetitive, and therefore tedious, sex scenes, which is a real relief. Another bonus is that Abby Craden has, mostly, ditched the tedious, over-sexualised intonation she brought to her narration of the majority of Radclyffe's Honor Series novels.
Despite its limitations this is a great yarn and includes really touching descriptions of interactions involving a journo, a dog handler and her dog.

Running out of steam.....
The author seems to be literally running out of steam ,the Honor Series deserves much more than a story that gets weaker by the page. It is as if the author lost the earlier enthusiasm of the series and such a shame that much loved characters got side-lined. Readers deserve as much care and attention as in the earlier books. I feel we have been short changed and instead of an exciting crescendo the Honor Series has become a dampish squib.
