About this listen

When Jack Harrison climbed down the short ladder from the airlock and stepped onto the debris covered soil, the ground crackled with the sound of dried leaves and twigs.

Warm sunlight shone on his helmet, making him almost forget the decade he just spent captaining Earth’s first ship to another star system. The serene tropical surroundings, though, stood in stark contrast to the long-abandoned structures that lay nearby.

Evidence points to a massacre; the systematic extermination of an alien colony hundreds of millennia ahead of humanity. Time, however, has erased any trace of the attackers.

Jack and his crew barely start probing the ruins before their curiosity betrays them as an abandoned alien device cuts them off from their main ship. Lost and short on supplies, survival soon becomes their only goal. Even their short-lived rescue by an alien race, who themselves are under siege, offers little hope. As they struggle to find a way home, signs begin pointing to a danger darker than any they could have foreseen. Jack knows that playing it safe may no longer be an option - but his only other choice is to confront a threat that they can’t even begin to understand.

First, it was great having a story with an ending!
So many of these sci-fi novels are dragged out unrequited over many volumes, this story is continued, but has the satisfaction of a conclusion at the end of the novel.

Interesting story, some good twists and turns, with some very dark imagery on an utterly destroyed planet, and all very well depicted by the writer and narrator.
My only reservation, is as with many stories, when the main protagonist simply doesn't just punch the irritating, whining, officer, who simply questions everything he does or says, or of course they go somewhere, where anyone other than some gormless teen would never enter, lol.

Otherwise, very good, and another fine book from the Plus catalogue!

Interesting plot, good naration.

An excellent listen. Quite surprising how good the story was and also how only less than 30 reviews (at the time of this review). I would even go far as say this is one of the best stories I listened here. Well narrated as well. Well worth your time

A gem

Narration: At times to exaggerated and gets annoying, but ok over all.
Positive:
Intriguing start with an enticing mystery.
Negatives:
The first interplanetary mission apparently consists of rag tag bunch of people that had no background check done on them, don't know what "discipline" means, yell at each other all the time and never heard of a concept of CRM despite being a space crew...
Humans are the superior being of the universe because "monkey hit things with stick good" logic.
A lot of "science gibberish" that tries to sound like a revelation but does nothing but jumbles basic physics and relativity the "They never thought that up is THAT way!" kind of stuff. If you actually know basic science it's just painful.
So basically and Ok book for a free listen, but a disappointment in the end.

Good start lausy finish.
