is this now fake

I enjoyed the book but my listening coincided with the shock news re pos falsified data Jun 2023 of Harvard Business School Prof Francesca Gino a frequent coauthor with Dan Ariely on these subjects. It makes it difficult to quote from the book, until it's data has been investigated further.

Very engaging from the outset

Really interesting case studies described in a way to keep me listening throughout!
Only one issue - with the British accent it was harder then when the book was describing life in the US and not in the UK where I live - however this has helped me to understand myself more which will no doubt help me understand other people more too. S

Good data around human behaviours

I did NOT enjoy the narrator, I think it must have been targeted at a US audience. Being from the UK his accent was nauseous.
Details in the book is actually useful backed up with data.

Reminds me of Alchemy

This is a fantastic book. If you enjoyed “alchemy” you will enjoy this.

Each chapter is a story about how an unexpected outcome occurs in certain situations, in human nature, marketing etc.

Rethink every day decisions

Not a story book but an insight into your own thought processes.
The chapters are clear and themed with multiple examples from scientific studies for each point. A few possible study flaws, but given the benefit of the doubt that there isn't excitement in full methodology.
Will listen again after I add some vinegar to my beer.

We should all remember we aren’t as rational as we wish we were

I’m a big fan of Dan’s writing style - playful with a mix of great science and amusing, yet illustrative, anecdotes. A very accessible book on the science of how we actually make decisions, rather than how economists think we do.

Very interesting

I listened to this audio book because it was recommended on a list of books that will help you get better at sales.

You’ll come away from it knowing much more about human nature.

Three out of five.

The author in the first 3 chapters details the irrational behaviour that we himans display and also provides good pra focal implementable solutions for us. However in the later chapters the focus is more on the experiments conducted ro prove the irrationality of behaviour and less on providing actionable solutions.

nice reed but hate the background music

I liked the book its quite interesting.

On a more general lever I don’t like it when there is music in the background.
In this audiobook its not a lot but still if I want music I’ll play my own and for me its only annoying and not helping in any way.
Please don’t put background music in audio books!

Fascinating and thoughtful

The book provides several examples of situations we experience in our daily lives, the decisions we make and why we make them. One area is product pricing and comparisons. We don’t have a way to measure in absolute terms so we compare, and we compare with what is easier to compare. This can sway someone’s decision to buy one or another product. Learning about our built-in biases can help us make better decisions.

Dan is an enthusiast on behavioral economics and definitely invites the readers to think and apply the concepts he shares.

Great narration and interesting studies

The narration was really excellent and made the humor in the book really come across. Also enjoyed that many of the studies in this book were actually undertaken by the author and shows his curiosity with the subject.
