Summary
Pathological mind games. Covert and overt put-downs. Triangulation. Gaslighting. Projection. These are the manipulative tactics survivors of malignant narcissists are unfortunately all too familiar with. As victims of silent crimes where the perpetrators are rarely held accountable, survivors of narcissistic abuse have lived in a war zone of epic proportions, enduring an abuse cycle of love-bombing and devaluation - psychological violence on steroids. From how to heal our addiction to the narcissist to how to recognize a covert narcissist, Shahida Arabi's articles on narcissistic abuse have gained renown as some of the most accurate and in-depth depictions of this terrifying trauma, resonating with millions of survivors all over the world and receiving endorsements from numerous mental health professionals. In this essay compilation, listeners can enjoy some of her most popular articles as well as new thought pieces on narcissistic abuse: what therapists have to say about malignant narcissists and how children of narcissistic parents can become trapped in the trauma repetition cycle. Survivors are offered new insights on what it means to be both a survivor and a thriver of covert manipulation and trauma. Power teaches us that it is important to not only understand the tactics of toxic personalities but also to recognize and combat the effects of narcissistic abuse; it guides the survivor to learning, growing, healing and most importantly of all - owning their agency to rebuild their lives and transform their powerlessness into victory.

the voice is very awful but content is amazing
The voice artist is very monatone. it is very hard to engage with and listen to because of this. However the content of the book is spot on. really helpful to anybody who has had contact with a NARC.

Good but painful narrator
It’s such a shame. The content is good but it’s utterly ruined by an almost aggressive, American narrator. Feels almost punishing to listen to at times, especially talking through all the website addresses. Replace it with a calm, English and softly spoken voice and it would be excellent, for me.

So on point from my experiences
A really great collection of works, very relevant discussion from my own experiences and if ever I wobble over walking away from certain people in my life and family, I’ll listen to this again as it reminded me of why I had to take such measures in the first place. A great listen to confirm you’re not going mad!

A good discussion on the impact of narcissism on its victims - but repetitive
The book has been stitched together from a series of essays. Each could be standalone and that does lead to some repetition.

POWERFUL and LIFE CHANGING
This book answered every question I couldn’t articulate and lifted me from thoughts of taking my life, to becoming an empowered and enlightened man. I was broken when I stated reading this book, after suffering at the hands of narcissistic abusers my entire life, this book CHANGED MY LIFE. Thank you so much Shahida xxx

Good content if you can get over the horrific “reading”
Wow. The reading, if you can call it that, is uncomfortable to listen to at best. A good book, but I would be inclined to buy and read rather than listen to the horrific narrative, possibly the worst voiceover I’ve ever listened to.

not helpful DO NOT BUY OF YOU ARE OVER 25
please don't read this book the author doesn't have any real answers and doesnt answer the questions that really need answering
The author may be well qualified but she is very young and doesn't have or didn't have at the time of writing this book any dependants so if you are dealing with this and don't have kids ...stay far away from this book as the author , like so many without kids is very " single minded " and a little more selfish than a parent can ever afford to be
She finished the book by saying something trite about meditation being really important and for so many of us after we have lost so much it's far to little far, far to late .
please don't buy this book and line the pockets of a young women who has no idea of what it's like to deal with this as someone without children and over 30 ... terrible advice from some one not old enough to know any better.
