Summary

Under cover of night in Richmond, Virginia, a human monster strikes, leaving a gruesome trail of stranglings that has paralysed the city. Medical examiner Kay Scarpetta suspects the worst: a deliberate campaign by a brilliant serial killer whose signature offers precious few clues. With an unerring eye, she calls on the latest advances in forensic research to unmask the madman. But this investigation will test Kay like no other, because it’s being sabotaged from within - and someone wants her dead.

Very nice book and perfect interpretation

Suspense up until the end and the narrator changes voices for every single character, she is impressive!

I do like the Scarpeyta series

I read the books many years ago but it was nice listening to them again - wasn’t sure about Marino’s voice but I warmed to him by the end- I’m on to the next now.

Bit of a Drag

This is one of Cornwell's earlier novels which I read way back. To me, the printed word seems better than the audio version. I understood what the characters were like and when hearing the audio version nothing like what I had imagined, Lucy Scarpetta's niece came across as an annoying spoilt brat. I found the story seemed to falter in places, although the plot was weak, to say the least, and not only weak but drawn out.
I do have another Scarpetta on my audio kindle just hope there is a bit more oomph to it.

It was nice to listen this book again.

It's a long time since I first read this book but I found it enjoyable (and surprisingly dated). I prefer the earlier Scarpetta books to the more recent ones. I liked Kay when she want too 'perfect' and the plots were more plausible.

Loved this book, looking forward to the rest of the series! Recommended for those who like BBC Silent Witness.

Great story. Appalling narrator.

The story is fantastic, I was really looking forward to listening to this book.

However ... the narrator was appalling. Totally miscast for the main characters.

Her voice is too light, too weak and too boring, it sounds like she's trying to be wistful and it doesn't fit the character or story. I almost gave up before I'd even got to the first chapter. I will try it again at a slowed down speed and see if that helps (edited to add, it doesn't).

Her portrayal of Scarpetta is bad enough but her accent for Marino is absolutely atrocious. A good book ruined by a poor narrator. Unfortunately I've purchased the others, I wish that I hadn't now.

A really good, really really good, lazy listen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I like thrillers, I like Harry Hole, Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp, etc but this was slighly different for me. - This book was a good mystery but not too taxing, its a good lazy read if that makes sense. When you want quickly developed characters a simple but absorbing story with a couple of twists, then this is the book for you.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Postmortem?

I cant really say without giving it away, but its when the penny drops and you start to have a feeling who the actual killer really is.

Have you listened to any of Lorelei King’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have not but I did think she did a good job, she has a good voice again for a lazy listen.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

sometimes the details in in the corpse

Any additional comments?

I did like this book and think Patricia Cornwell and Lorelei King both did a great job of bringing to life the main characters, its not as hard a listen or needs as much following as some books but its very enjoyable, the medical scenes (autopsy) are very interesting and the relation ship between the main character and her niece is great

Great narration

Good story, of its time but well led and kept the attention. Narration was very good- not grating
