Very Easy to Use...Very Useful I

As a fairly frequent visitor to Madeira and Portugal, I have experienced quite a lot. Some of the tips (spot-on) just reaffirm the gems I have found and adding more for my next trip later this year. Traveling and avoiding tourist traps is the best way to live like a local.

Good information

What a terrific book. With bloody panache, Crowley returns the true credit for the launch of the modern age of discovery and European conquest to the Portuguese. But he also makes clear that the rise of the West was based on terror, violence and messianic fervor. It makes for thrilling but uncomfortable listening.

Good information to prepare you for your trip

I'm not a professional book reviewer and I don't listen to books in order to review them. I listen to books for knowledge, enlightenment, and pleasure. Conquerors, for me, is an excellent book. I really enjoyed it and while listening to it, I was constantly telling family and friends about it. I perhaps enjoyed it more than most might given that I lived in Portugal for many years and was generally familiar with many of the names of the conquerors. It's a fantastic story; a little country of a million people literally conquered Asian trade far ahead of all other European nations.

Great Travel Guide!

My understanding and knowledge of Portugal are very limited to perhaps Vasco de Gama and not much more. This book shows the considerable lengths that they went to reach India and what happened when they did. I found that I couldn't put this book down and totally enthralling. I can't recommend it enough.

Travel Guide .

I picked this book up in preparation for an upcoming trip to Portugal and expected to get more of the same old travel guide stuff. But I must say I was completely stunned by the depth and relevance of this book. Hatton does a mind-blowingly good job outlining an entire nation and people. His work is completely accessible yet full of fascinating data.

Portugal Travel

I skimmed through this book, not getting much out of it. Then I spent two weeks in Portugal and realized how much I learned from this book in terms of history but, more importantly, what the Portuguese people are all about. I immediately re-listen it when I returned and I could not put it down.

Great book .

I heard a lot of amazing things about the city of Porto in Portugal. Thanks to this book now I know exactly what restaurants to check, what interesting things to visit and many more useful tips for tourists. I like that it also contains a list of places to sleep that will not break the bank. My husband loves to visit wine cellars and I was pleased to find a list with the best wine cellars in the city. This well-written book will help me plan the perfect family vacation.

Excellent value for money

A gripping history of Portugal's exploration and subjugation of the Indian subcontinent. The listener is struck by the courageous, but cruel acts of the Portuguese nobility, which rival those of Cortez and Pizza rolls in the Americas. We'll explain and often exciting.

Travel Guide .

I was going to pass just one day in Porto before I got to Lisbon. After buying this book It completely changes my mind and I booked more time in Porto than in Lisbon. It showed me amazing places and restaurants that I couldn't find in my first search about Porto.
