Summary

A prominent figure amongst New York City's fashion elite, Elena Vega is a successful businesswoman and single mother to an adorable three-year-old son, Lucas. Her love life, however, is lacking, as those closest to her keep pointing out.

At the persistent urging of her closest friend, Elena reluctantly agrees to a string of blind dates if she can find a suitable babysitter for Lucas.

Enter Allison Sawyer, a free-spirited senior at New York University.

Elena is intrigued by Allison's ability to push her out of her element, and the young woman's instant and easy connection with a normally shy Lucas quickly earns Allison the job.

After each blind date, Elena returns home to complain to Allison about her lacking suitors. As they bond, Elena begins to realize that the person possessing all the qualities she most desires might just be the woman who has been in front of her the entire time.

The vast difference between the two women's social statuses, however, may be an obstacle not easily overcome.

Perfection

Loved this author for years and read this book more times than I can count. Got SOOOO excited when I discovered it had been released as an audiobook and bought it immediately!
Such a prefect storyline and the characters are great. The reader even kinda sounds like Anna Kendrick which is a perk for listeners :P

Loved the Book and the Audio Made it Better

I loved this book with its quirks on dialogue and everything so when I saw the audiobook was made I had to get it. To me it made the book all the better. Kira Riley does a great job with voices (subtle differences in the characters voices). If you loved or even just liked the book, you will enjoy this narration of it!

Ugh.

I was excited for this story because at least one of the women in the narrative is a woc but you literally only know she's Latina because the author tells and doesn't show. The author says the character is fluent in Spanish but doesn't show it. Feels as if the detail was added just so the other main character could say her speaking Spanish was "hot" and that made my skin crawl.

One of the characters is supposed to be a stiff, type A, mid to late 20 something year old but is written as if she's in her mid 40s and doesn't have a personality. There are plenty career driven, type A, stiff 20 something year olds in the world and I can safely bet none of them call other ppl "dear" as much as one of the main characters does.

The obsession with one of the character's abs, which was brought up over and over again, was laughable and made the character seem like nothing more than a tight bod at some points during the narrative.

On top of all this, the story is boring. I know a lot are saying it's a slow burn but there's difference between the aforementioned and filling the pages of the book with details and occurrences that don't move the story forward.

This story is obviously not for me.

Popcorn Love

A very well written book. Very well narrated. Loved tuning in whenever I got a chance to listen! Audible is a great way to experience books! I will definitely look for more of KL Hughes' books!

meh

The story was okay at best, not very realistic, and I struggled to see why either character would connect up with each other based on the authors description of them. The narrator lack luster performance to add realness to the dialogue, and read through the intimate scenes where horrible. No inflections no pauses just barreled through as to be uncomfortable with the content. maybe reading the book would be better than this version. The annoying character who is to be "27" saying dear to her lover is just stupid.

Cute story, kid saves it

Somehow this story just can’t rise above juvenile despite well written relationship with the lead’s toddler. Both characters are annoyingly cliche. Some seriously bright spots get overshadowed by lines like “you may touch me any time, dear. You are quite the gentlewoman.” I just kept thinking, who talks like this? The kid saves the whole thing. He’s written perfectly and is pretty adorable. Overall it’s flawed but okay.

Wonderful

There aren’t many books that have a wonderful laugh out loud mixed in with the story. Pleasantly surprised and plan on listening again in 3 months through my library rotation

Good story

I just listened to this book a second time, it's a sweet story that is worth the listen/read. The Narrator does a fantastic job with the little boys voice and not bad with Elanas but Allison's voice is just to childish sounding and takes some of the enjoyment from the story.
