Summary
The first four series of the original BBC Radio 4 fantastical drama series set in a world almost, but not quite, like our own.
Paul Hilton stars as William Palmer, the immortal, reluctant and unthanked hero protecting mankind from an enemy they resist believing in: the Grey Folk.
Thrilling, dark and contemporary, the dramas are set in a recognisable present day but one haunted by the folktales of the British Isles: drowned villages, changeling children, werewolves and unruly nature spirits.

I really loved this.
great radio play, playing to the feel of a wicker man type world, where the super natural meets the normal, and William Palmer is our reluctant guide. some dodgy story lines but the cast really pulls it back on track and can get drama from the most strange occurrences.

wonderful in every way

good escapist fun
Would you consider the audio edition of Pilgrim: The Collected Series 1-4 to be better than the print version?
No idea as I haven't read the print edition - thought this was purely a radio series but now I know I may well go and look it up.

Which character – as performed by Paul Hilton – was your favourite?
Erm ... what a strange question. Pilgrim. The only character as far as I was aware that he performed. There is a cast list read at the end of each episode, so there are other actors too ... unless Paul Hilton has a number of aliases.

These questions are incredibly irritating and strangle any proper review! And aren't even always relevant - Audible please get your act into gear!
The first episode left me feeling a bit flat and wondering what I had bought and whether I would listen through to the end - but hang on in there as they get progressively better. They are a lot of fun, the acting is good - Pilgrim especially improves a lot as he gets into the part. And Birdie Bird is delicious! The whole thing is a lot of fun if you like fantasy and enjoy a bit of British folklore.

I remember this when t was one, and it really was un-missable, having all the stories (if you buy them all is just great) is great binge listening.

Weird and wonderful
Really compelling drama, not at all in my usual line - but the the stories mix folklore and the modern world in such an extraordinary and convincing way. Main actor Paul Hilton is entirely convincing, and all of the voices are are well chosen for their characterization. I think this has been well directed to get the best out of an excellent cast, and it is a fine example of a script which lends itself far better to audio drama than it woukd to film, as it allows the listener's imagination to populate the space.

Uniquely enchanting
There’s nothing quite like PILGRIM; the tale of a cursed immortal forced to walk between the worlds of magic and men. That summary makes it sound like a dozen other urban fantasy stories, but the reality is very different. PILGRIM draws from the deep well of British folklore and mythology, filling its tale with characters simultaneously fantastical and believable. PILGRIM is beautifully written, cast, performed and produced, one of the masterpieces of BBC radio drama.
Very highly recommended.

the series is a great twist on old tales. I could not stop listening. a huge strength is Paul Hilton as pilgrim whose empathy and strength lead a strong well directed cast. highly recommend

One of my favorites
As a dedicated insomniac I am always on the look out for decent audio books.
This really does fit the bill.
Not too complex, but engaging enough and easy to pick up where you left off.
I must say that over time I have developed a real affection for the characters and the cast who do a wonderful job of bringing the books to life.
