Summary
Random House presents the audiobook edition of Persuader by Lee Child, read by Jeff Harding.
Never forgive, never forget. That's Jack Reacher's operating principle. And Quinn was one of the worst guys he ever had the misfortune to meet. He had done unforgivable things. So Reacher was glad to know Quinn was dead. Until the day he saw someone who looked an awful lot like him, alive and well, riding in a limousine outside Boston's Symphony Hall.
Never apologise. Never explain. When Reacher witnesses a brutal attempt to kidnap a terrified young student on a New England campus, he takes the law into his own hands. That's his way, after all. Only this time, it leads to a fatal shooting. Has Reacher - shockingly - lost his sense of right and wrong? Just because this time, it's personal?

Great Story, odd reading.
The story was great, the actual reading was like listening to someone reading 16hours worth of bullet points! very different reading to the other Jeff Harding performances! very odd.

Great story bad Narrating
great story but the Narrating was as bad as I've ever heard. very wooden ad almost ruined the book. I'd struggle to recommend this book because of this alone!

Couldn't listen for more than 10 minutes
Absolutely love Lee Child books and looked forward to picking up the series via audible as I can listen while working but the voice of the narrator was so annoying, I had to switch it off after only 10 minutes as it completely distracted me from the story. Such a shame - I will now need to wait until I have time to read the books to continue the series if this is the best audible can do.

It's Jack . . . Enough Said!
It's Jack, it's shotguns, it's a bunch of bad guys who have a real edge to them who get on his wrong side. Enough said. It's a very old and very bad enemy who has crossed Reacher in the past in the worst of ways. Enough said.
It's Lee Child's quick-fire and direct prose gloriously crunched into life by the gravel-throated Jeff Harding. Enough said.
This is a seriously good Reacher novel.
Enough said.

This does not disappoint.
I’m on a Reacher binge: listening to them one after the other. So far, all read by Jeff Harding whose voice I’ve come to identify so strongly with Reacher that listening to a Reacher novel narrated by someone else would leave me with PTSD.
The story opens with Reacher rescuing a kid from an attempted kidnapping, but all is not what it seems. The Luddite Reacher is entrusted with a James Bond-like email device as he infiltrates a dangerous gang. Then Reacher meets his match: someone even bigger and stronger than he is! Though not as charming, and that’s an understatement.
Lots of realistic detail as usual. Lee Child does his homework. I give this 4 stars for story only because the romantic storyline didn’t convince me. An unrequited romance with the gangster’s “moll” would have been more interesting and believable. But the “moll” turns out to be another interesting and unexpected female character.
Trivium: after finishing this audio book, I listened to Dickens’ “Oliver Twist” (a marvelous narration by Jonathan Pryce) and it mentions a “persuader” - a weapon. More than 100 years before Lee Child’s book.

Don't listen to this if you're a bit squeamish
Narrated in his usual inimitable style Jeff Harding has taken over from R C Bray as my favourite narrator. Here Reacher shows no mercy and the kill toll keeps rising. Another great read and on to the next one . I'm hooked.

Reacher Going Over The Top With His Ego
There are many times when our hero presents an image of a man grossly in love with his vanities, his thuggishness, his virility, his guns and delighting in breaking peoples necks. Lee Child has overdeveloped this character to a point where we must question whether Child is producing bloodthirst, soft porn potboilers for the NRA. Reacher must be every feminist's bogeyman.
Reacher has become insufferable and Child isn't as good as he can be with this story. The saving grace is the top narrator Jeff Harding, without his voice acting the story would be very poor indeed. I have just re-heard this story again and winced at the bloody sadism that accompanies almost all the actions of our 6'5" hero. There is more than a touch of 'know it all', narcissistic cruelty about him. It's good to hear that his creator will be passing the responsibility to another in his family...maybe Lee Child has had enough of his creature.

A cracker of a tale.
Hugely enjoyable. I found it riveting with enough plot twists and turns to engage, thrill and excite. Highly recommended.
