Summary
Erin Paterson runs her grandfather's law firm in Glasgow, and is an uncompromisingly aggressive negotiator. But the success of her practice is not echoed in her personal life. Erin's father has had a stroke. She can't stand her mother. Her sister's a flake and their brother, Leland, committed suicide. She's not doing too well with her boyfriend either, whom she discovers in flagrante the day that an old school friend, Lucy Grant, is murdered. From this moment, events unravel to test Erin's resolve to the maximum. Can she hold onto her job, even onto her life, when the past slithers out of the darkness to expose a secret in the family that no one dares confront?

Great listen
I enjoyed the gentle scottish accent of the narrator. The story is a gripping mix of murder-mystery, psycho-thriller and family drama. I was suspecting everyone at some point: the friendly policeman; both brothers; the mother in collusion with the central character..... The ending is a not a conclusion, so a little suspense remains even when the book is finished.

Fantastic read, is there a follow up?
Brilliant book even read bits of it twice as there were so many intreguing twists and turns, to the storyline, I truly hope there will be a follow up book! Best I have read in a while.

What's
Absolutely gripping from the start - the reader was excellent and utterly believable with a good range in voice characterisation. The plot is a bit far-fetched and at times lacking in credibility, but strangely that does not actually get in the way of enjoyment of the thrill as it develops at a good pace speckled with some wit and humour. Looking forward to the return of Erin Patterson in another story?

A real thriller, outstandingly well-read
This is the first book I've tried by this author and I was impressed. The pace keeps up and there are surprises along the way, but even more one feels involved in the life of the main character as one thing after another happens to her. Some of the autopsy reports described of victims' injuries are pretty gruesome but add to the sense of fear. The reading, more a dramatization, by Cathleen McCarron really brings the characters to life and her Glasgow accent sounds authentic and natural, but she can do other Scottish accents equally well. Recommended.

absolutely brilliant
This is the first book i have read from this site. And it is well worth reading it. It held my attention from start to finish - lots of twists and turns. It's Scotland based and the narrator's carried this theme with the accent. Cannot wait for the next book by the author.

Curious ending.
I loved this book and found it exciting with great pace. The main character who starts out being pretty objectionable becomes less so as the story unfolds and you begin to understand what has made her the way she is regarding relationships. Narrator was brilliant. I was gripped by the tension throughout but then was completely flummoxed when it quite suddenly ended. It would have been nice if the author had dotted i's and crossed a few t's, instead of which one is left wondering. Maybe there is to be a sequel beginning where this one left off? If so, can't wait.

Great story
Really enjoyed this story. Literally could not stop listening to it . Keeps you guessing right to the end!! Throughly recommend it . You won't be disappointed .

OK but I can't agree with the 5* reviews
I quite enjoyed this book, but I definitely don't think that it warrants the 5*s that others have given it. I can't critique it too much without adding spoilers, but this was not a book which had me taking the long route to work to listen more. Don't get me wrong, it's a reasonable listen with numerous twists and turns (not all of which come as a major surprise), but I found myself having little empathy with the main protagonist.
