Summary

People like Emmy Jackson. They always have. Especially online, where she is Instagram sensation Mamabare, famous for telling the unvarnished truth about modern parenthood.

But Emmy isn’t as honest as she’d like the fans to believe. She may think she has her followers fooled, but someone out there knows the truth and plans to make her pay....

A smart and thrilling debut that delves into the darkest aspects of influencer culture, Ellery Lloyd’s People Like Her is about what you risk losing when you don’t know who’s watching....

A case of a plague on “all” your houses!!!

So pleased I bought this book! Nearly didn’t due to quite a few negative reviews plus the subject matter of life lived through social media is one I have zero interest in but I have only praise! It casts such a sharp eye on this curse of modern society. We can’t help but despise the main characters, their public cliched fake life and in their case the exploitation of their children as an add on but suddenly their vulnerability is also exposed allowing them to become actually human, even if only for a while. They do seem to have the last laugh but probably fair as the “followers” are just as guilty for putting the “influencers” on these weird metaphorical pedestals from which they seem to take immense interest and glee in knocking them off.
Overall a very well crated social exploration, with twists, on why we love to hate, delivered by excellent performances from the readers

Great Insight

Great insight into the life of an influencer and actually how unlikeable they are! Good pacing and a great thriller.

Scary. Not recommended for couples with babies.

very tense but subject matter might affect confidence of people with babies or trying for a baby. I have often slept with babies in my bed but don't do it if you're drunk.

A very intriguing read

Different, intriguing, and chilling read. Not my usual genre ...but I’m eagerly awaiting and hopeful for a sequel!

Alright, but came away disappointed.

So positives first, its well written, easy to listen to and very close to the end becomes quite interesting.

However I did struggle with this book, I wanted to like it because the premise sounded good, however it is very heavily narrated, every character talking through their thoughts and motives behind everything rather than the story unfolding itself. I also found that for the first 80% of the book it kind of felt like nothing really happened, def not a thriller or edge of your seat type read.

I do think this book is very well written, the narration by Anna Bentinck, Finlay Robertson and Nathalie Buscombe is impeccable and if you are looking for some easy listening without many twists and turns then you may very well love this book. I think I just found myself looking for something more.

Very dark in places

The story line was very now! I loved the different perspectives of the characters especially the husband and wife and how their roles switch at the end. The twist was good and there were little lessons thrown in on what is appropriate social media behaviour.

Great listen

A great listen. Very apt for the social obsessed world we now live in. An easy listen.

Social media scary tale

Important to declare that I am NOT a fan of social media and if this cautionary tale doesn't give pause for thought then you deserve everything you get .... as did Mamabear in this well-narrated but very scary novel. Read it and weep if you live your life on facebook, instagram and twitter (amidst any others I have failed to notice). The adage 'you reap what you sow' has never been more relevant and I urge those who are fans to listen to this and hopefully act upon its warnings. Have to say I did enjoy the novel but as an outsider looking in and not a participant of this dangerous game. Good luck and take care out there!!!

Gripping!

This was my first fiction book on Audible and I was hooked from start to finish - clever twists and turns, very heart wrenching at moments and very relevant in the social media world we live in these days. Highly recommended!
