Summary

When Penny solves the riddle of an unbreakable knot in time, she unwittingly releases two time travelers from the distant past into Piper Falls. The town is plagued by a series of baffling events related to the appearance of a strange elf-like creature. Penny's science teacher and mentor, Mr. Myrdin, recognizes him as the Coch Coblyn, an evil spirit from Celtic myth with a penchant for igniting city-destroying fires.

Compounding the mystery is the discovery of a prehistoric scepter, made of impossibly pure silver that's intertwined with Seneca creation myth and Master Poe's past. The silver scepter draws the sole survivor from the ancient civilization that created it to Piper Falls. After traveling forward thousands of years in time, he plans to take the scepter back to his own time and save his people from the cataclysm that destroyed them.

Stumped by the escalating pranks of the Coch Coblyn, the Deputy Sheriff contacts his good friend, Darin Kolchak, a paranormal investigator. Kolchak answers the call by bringing the latest in ghost-hunting technology to town in his refurbished U-Haul. Kolchak's methods may not be conventional, but they lead him dangerously close to the truth. Penny and her friends race to unravel the secrets of the artifact, dodge detection, and prevent either of the new arrivals from using it to return to power.

Wonderful Addition

Second book in the Penny Preston series and I thoroughly enjoyed this one! I even enjoyed it better than the first! It was a great story again tying together mythology and science. The characters had some great development and the book over all was really enjoyable!

Again, Michelle does a wonderful job performing this one. She’s a great narrator and does an admirable job with words that would leave me tripping over my own tongue!

I really recommend this series for some easy, light listening.

Fabulous Loved it

Loved this book, I fitting follow up to the first book this time featuring An Atlantean artefact, a red leprechaun and an ancient high priest. Great story spanning thousands of years with a series of strong well described characters. Penny who is growing into her abilities, loved Simon and Mr Poe and even liked the leprechaun despite his mischief. The narration is strong as I have come to expect from this narrator, still can't quite manage a Welsh accent but this is only niggles because I am Welsh myself otherwise Michelle is one of the best. I liked that the story moves from the past to the present and then back to the past again telling the history of the artefact. Great action packed ending. I really look forward to the next book. Highly recommended for all ages who enjoy a family adventure story with great ideas, higher dimensions and legends. I received a complimentary copy from the narrator and am leaving a honest voluntary review

A brilliant compelling time travel mystery fantasy

What a lovely story, quirky, time travel mystery for a young girl to solve and undo the knot that brought the evil spirits from myth into today, the race was on then to send the spirits back, brilliantly thought out and executed, narration fantastic as always Michelle

Is there a book 3? If so, I need it.

I've come to know Penny Preston, and those surrounding her, quite well these past two books. This book, every bit as captivating as the previous one, is filled with mystery and excitement. Brought to life by the wonderful voice actress that is Michelle Babbs, the author Armen Pogharian knits the story together so seamlessly that nobody sees what the finale will bring.
The book stands well enough alone but I would advise that any potential reader listen first to book 1, not so much to make sense of this one, but to ensure that the listener doesn't miss out on the magic of the Penny Preston books.

Tangled threads

I enjoyed this book but I think you need to have read or listened to the first book for this book to make sense. The story jumps around from character to character and even in time and can get a bit confusing to start with but it soon all comes together nicely. I like the characters and that combined with the unusual story lines makes this book so enjoyable. There is a little bit of everything in this book, a good mystery - who was behind all the pranks, adventure -escaping a burning city, syfi - A talking bird from another dimension and a talking cat as a guardian, magic and curses - Red Leprechaun or even a Coch Coblyn trapped in an artefact. You even get a school lesson on ancient Egypt. I can't wait for next book.
With strange pranks happening all over Piper Falls Penny fears that when she closed the last rift in time she missed something. So she and Duncan start chasing up sighting of the little red man but they aren't the only ones. A paranormal detective is in town with all his high Tec gagets. Can Penny keep her time bending powers under wraps? And stop the little red man from hurting anybody? Time has proved that every time he is seen then something bad is going to happen. Can time travel be the explanation behind why there has been so many sightings of him? And if so what has brought him to Piper falls? There is also the time rifts with the strange coloured threads that seem to be tangled together could they lead to a clue as to what is going to happen?
I liked the narrator. She is perfect for the role of Penny and and her friends and brings just the right amount of drama and suspense to the story to keep you hooked.

Entertaining YA fantasy

Having read the first book in Armen Prgharian's series, Misaligned, I knew I would enjoy book II, Penny Preston and the SIlver Scepter. Even though this is not my usual genre of book to read or listen to I enjoyed this contemporary fantasy for teens. The book is entertaining and delightful with characters who are believable (those of human form anyway!) and interesting. Penny, her friend Duncan and Mr. Myrdin are puzzled by the pranks happening in their town. A Celtic spirit has arrived and is wreaking havoc. Why is he here, and what does he have to do with the ancient scepter? The story moves quickly and the author keeps interest high with suspense, mystery, and some edge-of-the-seat action. The narrator, Michelle Babb, does a nice job of giving characters their unique voice, making for an enjoyable listening experience. I enjoyed the book and look forward to listening to any other books that may come in this series. I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

A bit confused with the characters, but a good read

This second book in the series is a good story. However, I’ve got a little lost with the characters, and again, I didn’t read the book straight through because I was busy with other stuff. Overall I like the book, I like Penny and Duncan, they both grew in their knowledge of their power. I have to say, Penny and her familiar Simon are my favorite so far. I love the series, can’t wait to read the next book. As usual, Michelle Babb is excellent in her narration.

Sci-fi, fantasy mystery story

Penny Preston and the Silver Scepter by Armen Pogharian is a very engaging story. It has a bi oif everything that I love - sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal, mythology, time travel and mystery. The narration by Michelle Babb is outstanding. She performs the characters so well and distinctly that there never is any confusion. The well written story is enhanced by her performance.

Very Enjoyable.

This is such a good story and we get to know more about the characters in this book. I like that the author has kept them as real kids within their own age group. I like that the author let them make mistakes and go through things kids go through. Makes the story have realism.

The narrator Michelle Babb is a wonderful storyteller. She does a wonderful job with the characters in this book. I have enjoyed every book that Michele has narrated. If I see that she is the narrator I am confident that it's a story I will enjoy!

I was provided this audiobook at no cost in exchange for my unbiased review & I look forward to listening to more books in this series.

Better Than the First Book

I liked this second installment of Penny Preston even more than I liked the first book. And I really enjoyed the first book! We get to know the characters a bit better in this book, and we learn more about other characters in the town. I loved getting the back story on the silver scepter, and would have actually liked to have gotten to know those characters more, as well. They seemed pretty interesting! Michelle Babb did an excellent job narrating the multiple story lines in the book. Her style of narrating just seems to work well with this series.

Great story

Penny is back with her friends. This time they are trying to find out who is going around Piper Falls pulling pranks. Are these pranks tied to the man in red who is seeking a warm place to stay or are they tied to the discovery of a Seneca scepter?

The characters are entertaining and interesting. Penny is a smart and brave young lady, her best friend Duncan is loyal and trustworthy. The great of the group is made up of Penny’s cat, , Simon and Mentors Master Poe and Mr. Myrdin. These three characters are well-developed and otherworldly. One of my favorite characters that only makes small appearances is Duncan’s Grandmother. She is your sweet grandmother type but holds a lot of answers from the past.
The story is fast-paced, captivating, and heartwarming. This is a wonderful written YA fantasy book that can be enjoyed by all ages.

I listened to the audio version of the book. The narrator Michelle Babb is a wonderful storyteller. She does a wonderful job voicing the characters. I'm never confused by which character is speaking. I sometimes forget that there are not actually multiple people doing the voices. I can just get lost in the story as she bring it to life.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.

Great story - lovely narration

I devoured the first book in the series and was beyond excited when this sequel came out as audiobook. Just like the first one, it was really nicely written and generally speaking easy to follow (with a couple of quirky themes), and I loved the life that Michelle Babb breathed into the story.

Enjoyed book one more

A good follow up story but many new characters are added to the story. The first story was excellent, this one is good. I will listen to the third book, assuming the there is a follow up book.

Michelle Babb is one of my favorite narrators. As usual she has done an excellent job narrating this book.
