Summary

Every town has its secrets, but no one has a secret like hers.

Amber Blackwood, lifelong resident of Edgehill, Oregon, has earned a reputation for being a semi-reclusive odd duck. Her store, The Quirky Whisker, is full of curiosities. It has everything from extremely potent sleepy teas and ever-burning candles to kids’ toys that seem to run endlessly without the aid of batteries.

The people of Edgehill think of the Quirky Whisker as an integral part of their feline-obsessed town, but most give Amber herself a wide berth. Amber prefers it that way; it keeps her secret safe. But that secret is thrown into jeopardy when Amber’s friend Melanie is found dead, a vial of headache tonic from Amber’s store clutched in her hand.

Edgehill’s newest police chief has had it out for Amber since he arrived three years before. He can’t possibly know she’s a witch, but his suspicions about her odd store and even odder behavior have shot her to the top of his suspect list.

When the Edgehill rumor mill finds out Melanie was poisoned, it’s not only the police chief who looks at Amber differently. Determined to both find justice for her friend and to clear her own name, Amber must use her unique gifts to help track down Melanie’s real killer. A quest that threatens much more than her secret...

Great narration and enjoyable book

This is the first book I listen of this genre, and I really like it. The story is well written, and had me wondering and thinking who was the murderer. I was making and discarding theories as the story progressed.

First time listening to Victoria Villareal, but I really loved her narration, she did a wonderful job with this story. She performed it pretty well, she has different voices for each of the characters which is so perfect, her tone and paced were really good. I will look forward more of her narrations for sure.

Amazing Mystery

Pawsitively Poisonous by Melissa Erin Jackson is book one in the A Witch of Edgehill Mystery series that I listened to on audio narrated by Victoria Villarreal.

This is the first book of Melissa’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. This book kept me very intrigued until the very end. I cannot wait to listen to the next book in the series Pawsitively Cursed.

Victoria did an amazing job on the narration. She really knows how to bring a story to life.

Pawsitively Poisonous

This was such a fun mystery to listen to. I really liked the magical side to this and how she has to do it without anyone knowing what is going on. I was able to guess who the murderer was, but the way they found out was fun to listen to as it was happening. The narration in this book was done really well also. I will definitely be on the lookout for the next to come out.

Pawsitively Perfect

I loved it, it was a mystery murder with a difference. as a mystery should it keeps you guessing and throws some false clues at you to keep you changing direction and she is a witch so a win win for me. Easy to listen to as it has a light feel to it not sinister.
the detail Erin Jackson wove within the mystery, about the town and the characters really gave the whole story such visual characterisation, brought to life by the lovely narration of Victoria Villarreal. Cant wait to listen to the next one!

All types of characters in this enjoyable story.

To me this felt on the lighter side although it's not funny it's just not heavy. I enjoyed the setup and the way the characters all interact with each other. The complete cat focus of the town made me smile a lot. I like the way she hides her witch side and the things she does with her powers. The story follows along nicely and I didn't guess he culprit too far ahead of the reveal. Overall enjoyable.

Victoria Villarreal does a good job with the narration.

Such intriguing magic

When Amber's friend is found dead, the local police chief puts her at the top of the suspect list. He's clearly always been suspicious of her though she never knew just how far back that mistrust stemmed from. Amber decides to do a bit of her own investigating and there are plenty of suspects in town.

Such intriguing magic, I would love some of Amber's toys! I really liked that the magic wasn't perfect and infallible, it seemed so much more realistic this way.

Pawsitively great

This is the first book by this author that I have read or listened to but I really enjoyed it and I will definitely be looking out for more books in this series. I really liked the mystery and the sprinkling of magic made the story fun. If magic is not your thing then I think you should still give it a go because there was no cauldron casting spells, it more a suggestion of magic and just a few spoken words to tell the truth and not all of the spells worked as it should. The characters were fun but I did think at least one of the cats in the town would have given a helping hand or should I say paw. There was a good number of suspects and a few twists keeping it interesting.
Ambers best friend is sick and wanting to help her friend feel better, she gives her a headache tonic. The same visual of headache tonic is found gripped tightly in her cold dead hand. The police chief has never trusted Amber because strange things happen around her and now he had a very good reason to investigate her himself. Using her secret gift Amber learns that Melanie was poisoned and with everyone looking at her she decides she has to do something to find out what happened to her friend. The friend she is quickly learning that she didn't really know. Things begin to look up for Amber when she is provided with an alibi but the Chief with no other suspects asks Amber if with her psychic powers she could lend a hand. Can Amber get to the bottom of the murder before the police chief learns her real powers?
I liked the narrator and even though a few of the voices were a bit high I thought she did a good job bringing the story to life.

A Witch of Edgehill Mystery

Pawsitively Poisonous (A Witch of Edgehill Mystery, Book 1) is the first audio in this cozy mysteries series. I was bewitched by the cover and couldn't wait to listen to it. I loved how the beginning and how the ending starts with mystical music bringing witchy mysterious vibes. The world building descriptions & settings are well detailed. Characters are entertainly witchy. Eclectic shop, feline haven, herbal remedies, magical spells & potions, magical toys, and heaps of suspense swirling through the pages. This ends in a way that leads into the next book, but ties up everything in this mystery. A entertaining listen.

Narator Victoria Villarreal's performance was majestic and smooth.

Quirky!

Amber has lived in the small town of Edgehill all of her life. Everybody knows everybody and nothing stays a secret long. The town is very cat obsessed. Her shop, The Quirky Whisker fits right into that obsession. The only person who doesn't seem to like or trust Amber is the chief of police who moved into town a couple years ago. When a friend of Amber's winds up murdered, she's the first suspect. Especially since she's the last person to have seem her alive. I knew I'd love this book the moment my eyes caught the cover. I mean it's so adorable. I just knew it would be one of those quirky and not so serious books. Other than the murder mystery, I was correct. I loved the small town vibe where everybody knew everybody. I also loved the quirky and wit thrown through the entire book. I think some potential satire was missed through the book, but that's just because I'm a naturally sarcastic person. I found myself picturing this girl I watch on TikTok as Amber. I don't really remember her name on the app. She's just quirky and energetic and fun. She has long dark hair with some blue in it and she's so full of energy. Amber reminded me of her so much. There was also a character in the book that reminded me of the girl Ariana Grande played in that one show. Don't judge me. I'm bad at names. She was so adorable! The one criticism I had is that I wanted to see more interaction between the chief of police and Amber. Most of it was referenced and kind of rushed more than anything. This book was narrated by Victoria Villarreal. Please do not ask me how to say that. I couldn't even hear it properly the times it was mentioned in the audiobook. It's a pretty name. I definitely feel for her. People probably constantly butcher her name. I digress. She did a pretty amazing job. I haven't gotten a look to see who narrates the rest of the series, but I really hope she does. I am also curious to listen to other audiobooks narrated by her. I really enjoyed this book. It had a great mystery without being pulled down with seriousness. It was quirky and light and fun. I couldn't get enough of it. Amber was a great POV for this story. I'm looking forward to having the chance to read the rest of this series when I'm able to! I'm sure they will be just as great as the first one.

Magic, friendship, cats

I appreciate the ingenuity of the main character, and I love the idea of a hometown store with handmade crafts. I enjoy making things myself, and I always feel that handmade crafts are special because they retain a little bit of the maker. This heroine puts herself in everything she does, for the better. Cozy, cats, and magic.
