The author seems to be a follower of one of the brain pseudoscience dogmas. Also a lot of out of context uses of VR, AI and other buzzwords without understanding the technology behind it. And the kind of person that would buy organic salt too...

If you suspend your disbelief (which is real hard in this novel) it's pretty good cultivation story. Obviously it's not very good novel, but still isn't trash.

Oh, almost forgot. It has lots of infodumping and lots of MC remembering meaningless episodes/things from his past - just like a senile grandpa would
