Summary

October 1789, New South Wales, and into Sydney, capital of Britain's infant colony, sails the frigate Tempest. She is one of His Majesty's ships employed in policing the new southern trade routes. Her captain is Richard Bolitho, who hopes to be ordered home to England. Instead he is dispatched on a mission to the islands of the Great South Sea, where he must face hazards of fickle winds, pirates, and savage islanders.

Great story well read

Great book, really enjoyable, my only criticism is it's very jarring where the narrator finishes one recording session and starts another and seemingly random interviews and stands at different distances to the microphone. Nevertheless he reads well and it's a good story.

Another great book, very well read

How does the author keep coming up with such gripping and original plots? I enjoyed this Bolitho book as much as any of the seven others i have listened to, and did not find any problem with the sound quality although I am quite particular about such details; perhaps it has been re-recorded to put right any previous problem?

Excellent. Bring on the next one

Great story again. Lots of comments here about poor audio. I did not have that problem. Maybe it was redone? As always narration was excellent.

not the best

its not the best of the books but still very good, some complain about audio quality but it was ok so appears to have been redone or remastered

Brilliant novel to listen to

I am finding it hard to come up with the words to describe my enjoyment of this listen. If all the rest in this series are as good, no need to review any more

Bad sound

As usual the story and narration were great . But I have to say the sound quality and the editing left a lot to be desired. Think it must have been the sound editors day off on this one !?!?

Sound quality below par

The sound quality in this book is below that of others in the series which is disappointing because it doesn't do justice to Jaystons efforts

Let down by poor audio

Sounds like it was ripped from audio cassettes, old ones at that rather then the original master recording

Great story almost ruined by poor audio

Would you try another book written by Alexander Kent or narrated by Michael Jayston?

I am slowly purchasing all the Alexander Kent Blytho books and this story like the others is excellent as is the performance by Michael Jayston.

The audio is apalling though with jumps, changes in tone and pitch and breakes very badly put together. Nothing like the quality I would have expected. Something went very badly in the recording and editing process
