When Lisa Jones and her boyfriend George take on the run-down Rocks Hotel, they aim to do for Mariscombe what Rick Stein did for Padstow and set up a chic maritime retreat. But renovating a hotel is about more than stripped wooden floors and Egyptian cotton sheets, particularly when the locals are shifty and unhelpful. Especially Bruno Thorne, the tall, dark and surly owner of the nearby Mariscombe Hotel, where life is one long holiday; for the staff, anyway.

Good
Great story, shorter than others but still great. Wasn’t totally keen on the narrator, at times it felt like she was rushing through to finish the book, at others her narration sounded bored.

A well structured tale
This is mainly about Genevieve Baxter, the eldest of three sisters. Through a series of flash backs, into her memory since she was a child, you gradually get to know, all about her life. And when the story is set, there emerges the dramas of a
complicated family. Paradise House is a well structured tale, using the names Angel Sands, Angel Cottage and Paradise House(of course)to add charm. The narrator, Jenny Agutter, is a little bit wooden, although she's generally okay.

Enjoyable and heart-warming family story
The precis given for this book is misleading. The part played by his daughters in trying to solve their father's marital problems is a small thread in the main story which is mainly about those three daughters and their lives and loves, particularly that of Genevieve, the oldest daughter. Badly betrayed by her two best friends in her late teens she has chosen to live a somewhat secluded life, looking after her father and her sisters, in the B & B which they have decided to run in Paradise House. When her teenage boyfriend re-appears she has to re-evaluate her life and choices in a story that is both enjoyable and heart-warming.
