Summary

Jilly Cooper returns with love, high living, intrigue and a missing painting.

No picture ever came more beautiful than Raphael's Pandora. Discovered by a dashing young lieutenant, Raymond Kelvedon, in a Normandy chateau in 1944, she had cast her spell over his family - all artists and dealers - for 50 years. Hanging in a turret of their lovely Cotswold house, Pandora witnessed Raymond's tempestuous wife, Galena, both entertaining a string of lovers and giving birth to her four children: Jupiter, Alizarin, Jonathan and superbrat Sienna. Then an exquisite stranger rolls up, claiming to be a long-lost daughter of the family, setting the three Belvedon brothers at each other's throats. Accompanying her is her fatally glamorous boyfriend, whose very different agenda includes an unhealthy interest in the Raphael.

During a fireworks party, the painting is stolen. The hunt to retrieve it takes the listener on a thrilling journey to Vienna, Geneva, Paris, New York and London. After a nail-biting court case and a record-smashing Old Masters sale at Sotheby's, passionate love triumphs, and Pandora is restored to her rightful home.

One of my favourite Jilly Cooper stories.

Great characters and good fun. Plenty of highs and lows and more highs. Enjoyed it as much as Riders and Mount.

A delicious dive into an old friend!

Well, it's Jilly isn't it, so if you've read the Rutshire books in order you'll know what to expect from this, the seventh in the series: vivid descriptions of characters getting into, or landing in and then getting (mostly satisfactorily) out of, a variety of situations of their own and others' making. A convoluted as this? Of course, but that's part of the joy!

Guilty pleasure

Love these books, a total escape from reality and easy to get lost in. Will read again and again.

Best one yet

I'm working my way through the Rutshire series and this has been the best yet. Great characters and good story. Really enjoyed.

Loved it and didn’t expect to

I am making my way all the Rutshire Chronicles and feel that since Polo, the other books have gotten progressively less enjoyable. Appassionata was the worst in my opinions. So therefore, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy Pandora so much. I absolutely loved it. Far-fetched? yes but so enjoyable. Jilly has the knack of creating lovable characters (including those of the animal kind). I didn’t want it to end.
Credit also so Sherry Baines as I really enjoy her narration.
