Summary

After the brutal murder of her father, Emily Quinn finds herself detained at the San Francisco County Jail, charged with first-degree murder for a crime she cannot remember.

Emily’s mother, a wealthy socialite, quickly distances herself from her troubled daughter. But in an attempt to salvage the family name, she hires world-renowned psychiatrist Daniel Lieberman to assist in Emily’s defense. The famed doctor - an aging, lonely psychiatrist with an addiction to sugar, caffeine, and understanding the human mind - quickly becomes sympathetic to Emily and her tortured childhood.

Together, Lieberman and Emily explore the frightening and twisted world of her damaged psyche, uncovering the complex reasons behind the young woman’s self-hatred and disconnected self-image. They develop an abiding partnership, weaving through unexpected revelations and disturbing secrets. Of particular interest to the doctor is Emily’s strange attachment to the imaginary girls she sketches...and is driven to personify.

The secrets hidden in Emily’s mind could help with her defense or confirm the death penalty case against her. But Lieberman senses other secrets hidden within the patient’s mind, particularly the events surrounding the unexplained death of her twin sister Penelope.

A gripping, twisting tale of psychological intrigue, Pages in the Wind enters the mostly uncharted realm of the human mind, seeking truth buried deep within Emily’s subconscious. Lieberman can help her uncover her past, but Emily is the one who has to face it - or remain damaged forever.

A gripping listen.

Really loved this book and indeed the narrator.
The story was gripping from the start, heart breaking, with a build in tension that the narrator was able to recreate well.
Will be looking for similar listens.

Wonderfully Written, Beautifully Performed

Very emotional story. Painful, even. I love the author's writing style, and I very much was engrossed in the story. I'm sad that it is over, but very glad to have read it. This is the best I've read in a while.

Hidden Secrets

Pages in the Wind by Sally Taylor De Smet is an emotional rollercoaster. There are so many hidden secrets and twists. The story takes place approximately 50 years ago. I enjoy psychological listens and found this one to be well done. Susan Marlowe is a fantastic narrator and brings the characters to life. She adds the right emotions and tone, while giving the characters distinguishable voices. Very well done!

Very interesting book but ending fell flat

Loved this book - the content, not the reader. Engaging story with lots of twists, but the ending was disappointing. Still a worthwhile read.

Hard to finish!

I normally enjoy long books, but this was hard to stick with. It had way too many descriptive words and phrases and got annoying pretty quick. I really wanted to like the story, but it was so belabored... I held out to hear why the family was dysfunctional, but the real answers never came and the ending was like a train wreck.
The narrator over enunciated many words, while also mispronouncing words like "din-net" (didn't) and "bu-en" (button).
Although the reviews warned of the narration, I can't believe most thought it was so amazing...

Great story

I could not put this book down, Wanting it to have more chapters, Not finished yet but wanted to say it was so good but the narrator seemed to sound robotic at times when she put so much emphases on the end of words like wouldnt, couldnt didnt etc...Voice for male character all sounded the same with same robotic tone at times, Over all though this was such a good read!!! I dont write reviews , this is only my second time! Get this book,
