A wonderful tour de force by Oz Clarke through the history of wine making around the world. The book covers a vast amount of subject matter but in an easy to follow way - great for a beginner like me. Delivered with passion and joy by the author. It makes you want to start your own vineyard!

Oz paints his masterpiece

I have to confess, I'm a big Oz Clarke fan having been to one of his wine tastings/talks - and what you get here is just like that... without the wine. He has a simply colossal knowledge of wine and its history and this all comes out in the audiobook in Oz's rich, sonorous tones. I dare say - and the publishers won't like this - but this is better than the physical book, because of the narration and the emphasis Oz can put on the text.
You don't have to be a wine buff to enjoy it, he takes the critical events in the history of winemaking and makes them thoroughly accessible. It would be a great Radio 4 series.
Sometimes you have audiobooks read by the author when you think, nice book but I wish they'd got an actor in. This is certainly not the case - in fact at times he sounds a little like the late Vivian Stanshall doing Sir Henry at Rawlinson's End. (also voice artist on Tubular Bells).
There's very few audio books I'd listen to twice (apart from learning French with Mark Frobose) but this is one of them

Great for geeks

Sped him up to 1.1 for the first few chapters which worked well. Content and performance exemplary. Loved the linear timeline.
