About this listen

A glamorous life. A guilty verdict. A comeback designed to control her.

Lola Rayne’s life looks effortless: sold-out tours, flawless photos, and a headline-making duet. When a guilty verdict fractures her world, a staged redemption locks her into a narrative she never chose. As the partner she trusted reveals motives she never saw coming, the illusion she built begins to collapse.

Outlived You is a ripped-from-the-stage psychological thriller that exposes the machinery of fame and the cost of living a life curated for public consumption.

A fearless novel about love as performance, power as narrative, and one woman’s fight to reclaim her voice.

Several characters are faced with working out who can be believed and questionning are motives as stated dilemmas. Co-dependent relationships, insecurity and wanting to be loved for themselves are all themes shown and explored. Identity is also a central theme and you will witness some surprising revelations about who people are and whose side they are on. Gaslighting, lying, drug use and misuse are also part of the mix. Trigger warning that suicide is part of the plot. The title choice is also revealed when we discover the means and manner of our confused and conflicted heroine's redemption. I found it very satisfying. I suspect the author has done excellent research or been involved in the music and entertainment industry with public relations thrown in as the clothing for this twisty tale.

The narrator conveyed emotion and loaned context to the scenes. I was sometimes confused which of the female artists were speaking, but this might have been part of the author's artifice.

I received a free copy, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
