Summary

Loyalty. Family. Power. The Lords of Chaos MC, brothers in arms and blood, are men who take no prisoners. Their moral compass points in whatever direction they choose. So, when the opportunity to gain more money and power presents itself in the form of a favor to a notorious mob family, they accept. To put plans into motion, Noah "Ace" Murphy, Sergent at Arms of the Lords, visits his brother “Dragon” in prison. He gives him the task of killing a DEA snitch who’s under protection there. On his way home later that night, Ace meets a young man fleeing for his life half-naked and terrified. Kenshin Yamoto just escaped the grips of hell, but he isn’t safe yet. With one look into Kenshin’s beautiful brown eyes, Ace knows he’s hooked. He also knows that he’s going to make sure whoever hurt Kenshin, will pay… and it won’t be painless… or quick. After his visit with his brother, Ace, Diego "Dragon" Murphy starts preparing for a mission he knows he can't afford to fail. Killing is what Dragon excels at and he never misses his mark. But taking lives isn’t the only thing he enjoys. When he gets a new cellmate, Dragon is determined to get the man into his bed. Richard Harrison is everything Dragon desires and more, but he’s playing hard to get by claiming he’s straight. Something Dragon won’t hesitate to prove wrong with a simple bet.

In this electrifying tale of crime and passion, alliances are created and destroyed through the pursuit of money and power. Loyalty, Family, and love will be put to the test. "The Road to Carnage Series” will take you on a wild ride through the savage world of outlaws. You're going to want to strap in, this adventure isn't for the faint of heart. These men play by their own rules and no games.

This book is a part of a series where the story evolves as new characters are introduced. HFN/HEA. Not a standalone.

Protective Bikers - a great start

Both the author and the narrator were new to me and I was excited to see what to expect. It took me a while to get into it, but I enjoyed the story. Nicholas Bella did a good job of fleshing out the characters. Noah (Ace), after visiting his brother in prison, meets a young man who is desperate for help. The two should never have met, but Ace is a protector. But can he really protect Kenshin?

I was won over by both the main protagonists and the supporting characters. The life around the club is excellently fleshed out and I liked that the club is family oriented.
The chapters in the prison were interesting as well. I liked the development of Diego and Richard's story.

The story is exciting, at times dark with violence and angst and then there are steamy moments. The end is suddenly here and now I am very curious about the next volume!

Keith Folz did a good job. It was a pleasure to listen to him with his raspy voice. It was easy to distinguish the many different characters.
I requested a free copy of the audiobook and this is my honest opinion that I am volunteering

Cliffhanger

This is really two stories about two brothers in the same mc club.
One is Dragon and Richard who are sharing a prison cell. Richard being a little more clueless thinks he can buy his way through the downside of prison. He finds money doesn’t carry the weight he believed it should. He also finds he is a little more attracted to Dragon that he wants to be.
The other story concerns Ace and Kenshin. This is a instant attraction story. Ace is bent of revenge for how Kenshin was treated. The only problem is the abuser is a cop.
I found these stories separately good. I’m not sure why the author puts two stories in one book. I also appreciated the warnings even though I like dark stories but what I didn’t like is I feel the book ended on a cliffhanger. Nothing was stated that it is a cliffhanger. I know it’s the first in the series so I expected at least resolution for now but I don’t feel it did even that. The best part is the narration by Keith Folz. The characters came to life with this narration but it still didn’t change the ending.

Fantastic

Great start to a new series. I loved the characters and it looks really promising. Also, the narrator did bring the characters to life. It was fantastic.

Questionable Morality

I knew this Nicholas Bella book would be dark – which it is was. I suspected there would be moments of redemption – there are. I knew this was the first in a series – it is. I didn’t know this ended on a cliff-hanger and I’m like…?!? When’s the next book coming out on audio because I want to know what happens next? Like, uh, right now.

This is a dark book with dark themes. There’s violence. There’s morally reprehensible behavior. Some of it’s justified, some of it is definitely questionable.

The book starts out from Ace’s point of view. I should mention point of view is very fluid in this book and can hop through various character’s heads even within one scene. I’m accustomed to one POV and one character per chapter, so this writing style took some getting used to. It worked, but know that’s coming.

Anyway, Ace is a dedicated member of the Lords of Chaos Motorcycle club. He’s literally the son of the president and, as such, has certain privileges. He’s also mostly gay, although he did get a woman pregnant and so has a child, but this is a minor consideration. Anyway, he rescues a young man who literally jumps in front of his motorcycle naked. Ace’s protective instincts take over and when he finds the young man was held captive and repeatedly raped and tortured, he vows revenge. Not so simple, of course, because the perpetrators are cops.

The book also follows his brother Diego’s story. Diego is in prison, serving a nickel for his crime. He’s tasked with executing another prisoner. Par for the course, apparently. Except he has a new cellmate who is drawing his focus. The man maintains he’s straight, but Diego wants to have fun. Wants to turn him. Or at least convince him sex with men can be pleasurable. There’s a significant amount of coercion in this relationship, although it never crosses into consent violations. But it sure skirts the line. Morally questionable people doing morally questionable things. Everyone breaks the law of the land, but they have a moral code they follow. Pretty thin line.

Anyway, the book ended in the middle of something and I so want to know how things turn out. Fingers tapping for the next audio. I will also mention Keith Folz, the narrator. I’ve never heard him before, but I’d have no problem listening to him again. I thought he did a good job.

Great story and performance

I was given a free audio copy from the author and the GRR arc team for review.

Story = 4 stars
Narration = 5 stars

I really enjoyed this story. It is actually 2 stories in 1. 2 separate couples from the same family ping ponging back and forth. This was a change in structure that i have never read before and it took some time to get use to it. I had to leave off a star cause it was just alot of information and different names to take in and 2 different settings in such a short length of time and it cuts off mid story tbc. I would have preferred the 2 couples have their own books and be given the full story here for Ace and Kenshin. Other than that I loved the plot and characters and thought they had great chemistry. It had a bit of everything; it was a little sweet, s little tragic, it had some hurt/comfort, angst, action, suspense and definitely heat. I would absolutely recommend it cause I couldn't stop listening to it. It's great but I'm still a little annoyed I got to wait to find out what happens.

The narrator had a pleasant reading voice and seemed age appropriate for the characters. He expressed the emotions well bringing the story to life. He did different voices for all the characters and even did the female voices really well and made it a pleasant listening experience.

Right Place Right Time.

MM, Dark, Kink, First Time, Forced Proximity, Contemporary, MC, Mystery/Suspense/Romance. A binge listen with great characters, this book is unusual as the chapters keep flipping back and forth between two brothers. Noah "Ace" Murphy the MC Sergeant at arms and one of his brothers Diego "Dragon"Murphy currently serving time in prison. It shows them just prior to being in relationships and then the beginning of their new relationships while also going into detail about what's happening within the MC and the prison. I thoroughly enjoyed listening/reading their story as there is action and drama throughout with lots of heat. A To Be Continued Ending...

Good series- hardcore MC

I enjoyed the story. It’s about and 1% MC, with a family as the leaders of the pack. Ace is one of the Prez sons and he finds Kenshin running scared on the streets; while at the same timeline, Dragon (another MC brother) is in prison finding his own mate on Richard. They are different romances happening at once. They are dangerous men, protective yet caring with their partners. Kenshi was a sweet thing, even after everything that happened to him and Richard was surprised by his own desires. Will they go on? This book has a cliffhanger and neither couple are fully resolved. We’ll see on the next installment. Great performance by the narrator.

Probably just me, but it didn't work for me

It looks like it's just me, but this was a difficult listen for me. I was so confused at the start with all the names and nicknames and last names.

It took a very long time for me to get into the story and by the time I did, I wasn't engaged with any of the characters.

This one just wasn't for me.

Mixed feelings

I’ve doubled a lot about reviewing this audiobook or not. If I had known it was a cliffhanger series and that there was recent s**ual abuse I wouldn’t have picked it. Besides, I’m not completely convinced about Kenshin and Ace’s relationship (way too soon), and I’m conflicted about Dragon and Richard’s. I liked the idea if two stories in one, though.

For me, it makes no much sense being so touchy-feely and attracted to Ace just a couple of days after been abducted for more than a year. Too soon. On the other hand, Richard “really” liking Dragon Is also soon, but the explanation convinced me.

The content warnings should have been more specific, specially when there is s*x abuse involved. It’s not on page but the talking is quite hard, saying “dark themes” is an understatement. This topic is quite triggering and I think it should be clearly stated. And Dragon “getting quite a proposal of protection”? I wouldn’t put it that way, he was sneaky and creepy, but made it up later being sort of respectful.

I’ve got mixed feelings about this book, it’s confusing changing perspectives on narration on the same chapter, s*x abuse is not my topic, cliffhangers neither, but it’s also interesting and makes me want to know more, so…

On the other hand, the narrator is one of the best I’ve ever heard, he doesn’t feminise male characters’ voices and has a good female ones.

on the edge of my seat

Vivid and dynamic characters, love at first sight yearning and danger at every turn, this story had me hooked from the start. it's gritty, raw and follows a family of bikers rather than 1 person or couple. I liked that so many sexualities and diversities were covered in this book.

It does build up to sort of cliffhanger in that the main storyline isn't "resolved" and you know there's more danger and mayhem to come.

There are so very many characters in this story and with all the nicknames and biker names it did get a little confusing at times and the writing also seemed to shift perspectives somewhat randomly. As each chapter is headed with a characters name I think I thought that chapter would be from that characters pov but it shifts randomly. one moment Ace is say how hot Kenshin is then Kenshin's 'narating' how he feels about Ace. In all honesty, while this was a bit weird or annoying at times I'm still strong invested in this family and have so many questions I need to know more so I need to get to the other books asap and I guess that's all you can ask from a book. it hook you!!! and this totally did!!
