Beautifully narrated intriguing time travel story

I read this story on kindle over a year ago, and only gave it four stars, but I’ve just listened to it again on audible, in one sitting, and this time I absolutely loved it. It is beautifully narrated. The reader is pitch perfect. Often audio books are completely spoilt by a poor or irritating delivery, but this narrator does both male and female characters convincingly and the listening experience isn’t interfered with by any verbal flaws. And as for the story, this time around I noticed so much more. Originally, I had been disappointed with how little happened, but now I realise that it is as much the story of the medieval characters as the modern ones, and the beginning of a series which continues to explore all the different medieval characters’ stories. I found it had more depth and subtlety than I noticed first time around, and this was partly a function of the audio experience, because I was forced to listen to every word rather than letting my eyes race impatiently ahead to see what happens and thereby missing small details. Thoroughly enjoyable…

A wonderfully atmospheric time-slip

I love stories set either in the distant future or past, and this story, falling into the later category, did not disappoint. Right from the start it drew me in. It was extremely well written, and the narration was clear and easy to listen to, portraying each character well. The use of the old tree as a means of slipping from the present into the past was a bit different from other methods I've read in time-slip tales, and the characters were well drawn and believable. A delightful short read and I look forward to reading (or listening to) the other two books in the series.

Interesting premise and storyline

I enjoyed this time-slip novel -the slippage from one era to another was well done and I could engage with the main characters and the storyline. The connections between them was clever. However for me it was slightly marred by the narrator's delivery which I didn't find particularly engaging, but the story interested me sufficiently that i continued to listen.

Good time travel story

This book had a great plot. Interesting interplay of people and plausible happenings.

The transfer of people to the past (by a tree) when that individual is needed for a special purpose was something not encountered before. The politics of any group of people was truly believable also.

The narrator had a very high pitched voice doing English accent. This cause me some difficulty (totally my hearing issues) and I had to pay close attention to the story. But overall decent job of narration.

This book was provided free of charge in exchange for an honest review.

Easy Listen

This was a free audio book. I listened to while painting as I do most days. I found the narration grated a bit for the first couple of chapters then it became easier to listen to. The story itself offered a new way, to me, of time slipping in to the past. It was an interesting idea. The story itself was an easy listen, and although not challenging, I quite enjoyed the journey. Thank you Loretta Livingstone for giving me the opportunity to read your book!
