Summary

"No fear" was her new motto. But she never expected to be targeted for murder.

Indiana housewife Wynne Seally is determined to put her life back together after her husband leaves her for a younger woman. Traveling alone to Aruba and learning to scuba dive seem like big steps in that direction.

However, Wynne plunges in over her head when an underwater discovery turns out to be a clue in a high-profile murder case. With the help of handsome insurance investigator Ronan Gale, she soon finds herself embroiled in unraveling clues that could set an accused man free...or get her killed.

Brenda Hiatt is the author of sixteen novels to date. In addition to writing, Brenda is passionate about embracing life to the fullest including scuba diving (she has over 70 dives to her credit), Taekwondo (where she recently achieved her 2nd degree black belt), hiking, traveling, and pursuing new experiences and skills. A boring holiday in Aruba? Definitely not!

When you are 46, freshly divorced, and go alone to Aruba for what was supposed to have been your wedding anniversary treat, you don't expect a lot of fun, you don't really look for a new love interest and you definitely don't expect to find yourself in the middle of a huge crime investigation...:) But that's exactly what happens to Wynne when she decides to take scuba diving classes and finds a pricy ring at the bottom of the sea...

This is the starting point of a fantastically crazy, fast-paced, intriguing murder mystery written by Brenda Hiatt. I knew Ms Hiatt as the author of very well written Regency romances (which I loved, by the way) so it was fun to discover that she's equally good at creating an engaging and funny criminal plot, with hillarious characters (like Wynne's mother), likeable characters (like Wynne herself), sexy characters (like Ronan) and - of course - cunning and vicious characters (like... no, no, no, no spoilers here:)). The plot has everything: room/house burglaries, threatening phone calls, mysterious notices, FBI agents, murder attempts, a rollercoaster-type of ending... and decriptions of scuba diving as the proverbial frosting on the cake:) I don't know anything about it but I already feel like I'm ready to start learning right here right now - the pictures of it are so vivid in the book they instantly make you want to join Wynne under water:)

Ms Hazen's interpretation only adds to the already great quality of the experience. It's almost perfect, with the right pace, wonderful voicing of individual characters and good acting skills.

So, if you feel like listening to a catchy mystery - grab "Out of Her Depth" and have great fun:)

Wow!!! Loved it!!

The writing quality is phenomenal and the storyline keeps you guessing at each turn. I was expecting a completely different book when I started the first page and was pleasantly surprised at the depth and emotion rolling out of each chapter. This is a full length tale, no cliffhanger at the end, but plenty of Easter eggs within. If you haven't read this yet, stop reading reviews and buy the book already!

Kelley Haden gives a epic performance giving the novel depth and character that is uncompromising.. !

Facing Fears!

I so enjoyed this book! The author did a fantastic job weaving a story of a middle aged, newly divorced woman who learns to face her fears and become independent. The narrator was perfect for this book with her wonderful array of distinguished characters. She added the right emotions in every aspect. I selected this book based on the narrator and discovered a great author in the process. I will definitely listen to more books by both in the future. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. The imagery in this book was so good with the choppy seas, the desert landscape of Aruba, the diving experiences, etc. Having followed the story of the disappearance of Natalie Holloway, I had a great mental image of the island. The mystery in this book was so well done too! I highly recommend this book.

An Awesome Listen

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and found it very entertaining. Newly divorced, Wynne heads off for the holiday she booked for her 25th wedding anniversary that's not going to happen. She decides to take diving lessons, and it changes her life. This is a fast paced and suspenseful tale with interesting characters. Every time I thought I had it figured out, the facts changed. The ending made me smile.

lot of fun

What a fun listen! I knew Hiatt's other work and this was out of the normal realm for her. But I'd love it if she did more. The main character is a mid-life hero. She has some hassles that sound pretty familiar to a lot of women I know. She becomes more powerful as the story goes along so you really start pulling for her. And what happens - good and bad seem, you know, possible. The reader is really good - I really felt like I was listening to the real woman.
This is a great beach listen or summer story. Lots of fun.

Captivating!

I enjoyed this authors Historical Romances and decided to try this book out as well. I'm so glad I ventured into a different genre with her. I was hooked in the first chapter and glued to every word until the end!

A very enjoyable fun mystery with lots of twists!

If you could sum up Out of Her Depth in three words, what would they be?

Fun, relatable, enjoyable

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, I was very nervous about Wynne’s safety but so intrigued about how her relationship with Ronan was going to develop.

Which scene was your favorite?

At almost the end when she corroborate that Ronan was not one of the bad guys.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh a few times.

Any additional comments?

In the entire time that I was listening this audiobook, I portrayed actress Susan Sarandon as Wynne Seally. The voice, her character, it is a perfect march! The narratir Kelly foes a wonderful job as Wynne. I really enjoyed her performance in this audiobook. Great Job!

An intriguing mystery

Wynne ends up on holiday alone in Aruba after divorcing her cheating husband and forgetting to cancel the trip. She's determined to try new things and live up to the t-shirt slogan 'No Fear' so she takes scuba diving lessons. While learning to dive she finds an engagement ring which turns out to be an important clue in a recent murder investigation.
The narrator's voice is well suited to the main character but she also does a good job of the many other characters and accents in the book.

Great read

Out of Her Depth was a great read by Brenda Hiatt. After Wynne Seally's divorce, she decides to still go on her anniversary vacation to Aruba alone. She wants to live with no fear but doesn't expect that her vacation may end up making her a murder suspect. I loved reading this book.
