Our Crime Was Being Jewish contains 576 vivid memories of 358 Holocaust survivors. These are the true, insider stories of victims, told in their own words. They include the experiences of teenagers who saw their parents and siblings sent to the gas chambers; of starving children beaten for trying to steal a morsel of food; of people who saw their friends commit suicide to save themselves from the daily agony they endured. The recollections are from the start of the war - the home invasions, the Gestapo busts, and the ghettos - as well as the daily hell of the concentration camps and what actually happened inside.
Six million Jews were killed in the Holocaust, and this hefty collection of stories told by its survivors is one of the most important books of our time. It was compiled by award-winning author Anthony S. Pitch, who worked with sources such as the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum to get survivors' stories compiled together and to supplement them with images from the war. These memories must be told and held on to so what happened is documented; so the lives of those who perished are not forgotten; so history does not repeat itself.

Never again can this happen
I found one of the narrators became irritating after a while with the way she dragged out her words and I wondered if the accents were necessary. However, it is important that these voices are heard, we can never allow this evil to happen again.

Their Voices, their Truth.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. I think everyone should read this and think of it's implications today.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I don't think anyone could listen to this without being emotionally stunned.

This is not a narrative.
Simply the voices of survivors, telling of the horror endured. Sadly very few of whom have lived into the 21st Century.
Luckily their testament has been recorded in print, on film and tape, to stand as an indictment of horror for all time.

Must known
This must not be forgotten. It’s important to know what happened and to prevent this from happening again. The narraters did a good job with the accents

Understanding our meaning.
To find our meaning, we have to know our species, we have to know what we are capable off. The stories in this book have to be heard and felt by all, because they are human just as we are. To the memory of those who lost their lives through these acts of depravity we have a moral obligation to never forget. We must force ourselves to listen, and place ourselves in some very uncomfortable positions to understand ourselves so that we never again allow this to happen on any scale. I listened to a large part of this book while in the snow and fasting to give me a very , very, very small window of insight. We are all human, so if we can be one thing lets be kind.

The German death camps and the survivors stories.
Very sad and very informative to listen to the dreadful true stories of the Jews and the courage they had is a lesson to all .

It’s was difficult for me to ear these chocking testimonies

The worst of human nature
These stories are so heart rending and even all these years later humans are still behaving the same way to each other encouraged by evil self serving politicians when will the ignorance and cruelty end sadly I think never
What I would say about this book however is the reference numbers being constantly read out is as bad as the tattooing of the numbers on these peoples arms surely their names should be enough
The terrible accents of the narrators was very annoying and rather disrespectful too I felt

Incredible true stories.
Shocking, harrowing, inspiring and heartbreaking.
The level of cruelty by the Third Reich was beyond evil.
My only criticism is that I don't understand why each and every testimony was followed by a serial number. Without these, this book would have been at least an hour or two shorter.
That being said, it's still outstanding.

Absolutely harrowing recounts of experiences during the Holocaust. Hard to listen to at times but I felt it was the least I could do.
