Summary

"Orthodoxy" (1908) is a work by G. K. Chesterton that has become a classic of Christian apologetics. Chesterton considered this book a companion to his other work, "Heretics". In the book's preface Chesterton states the purpose is to "attempt an explanation, not of whether the Christian Faith can be believed, but of how he personally has come to believe it".

In it, Chesterton presents an original view of Christian religion. He sees it as the answer to natural human needs, the "answer to a riddle" in his own words, and not simply as an arbitrary truth received from somewhere outside the boundaries of human experience.

Didappointing

This book came highly recommended by someone I greatly respect, so I had high expectations. The work did not live up to them. I found most if his arguments unconvincing. He did not argue so much for his own beliefs as he argued against all others, and his predominant mode of argument was reductio ad absurdem, taking the targeted idea to its most extreme limits, and then dismissing it as ridiculous. Perhaps more surprising was that he did not contrast Christianity against other religions, but rather against secular philosophies, so that often, when he did make a good point, I found myself thinking that the same could well be said for Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, or many other faiths.

Uff da! Thought I might be interested,

(Wasn't, At least not for long,) Sorry, Audible -it wasn't your description at fault, it was me, reading the description and thinking that I'd read the book. Just could NOT wrap my head around it! Sincerely sorry.
