Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Open Your Eyes by Paula Daly, read by Julie Maisey.

Haven’t we all wanted to pretend everything is fine?

Jane doesn’t like confrontation. Given the choice, she’ll let her husband, Leon, fight their battles. She’d prefer to focus on what’s going well, the good things in life.

But when best-selling crime author Leon is brutally attacked in the driveway of their home, in front of their two young children, Jane has to face reality. With her husband in a coma, Jane must open her eyes to the problems in her life, and the secrets that have been kept from her, if she’s to find out who hurt her husband - and why.

Maybe it’s time to face up to it all. Who knows what you might find....

Audible Heaven

I have listened to all of Paula Daly’s books and thoroughly enjoyed each of them, but this time she has surpassed herself! A brilliant plot that kept me riveted from beginning to end.
Excellent narration by Julie Maisey - I have been know to buy a book based on the narrator - I will certainly look for others performed by her.
Congratulations to you both.

It has a Beginning, a Middle and an End.

Great to find a story that is strong enough in its own right to be written straight through from beginning to end without the need to keep jumping between time frames and narrators in order to add artificial excitement.

It's a domestic, family thriller, with a normal woman set as the main character, constantly finding herself in jeopardy. The main characters (husband and wife) are writers or wanna-be writers, so interwoven with the plot, we get a wonderful insight into the world of writing and publishing. A particularly fine ending I thought.

The main plot revolves around the husband being attacked and left in a coma. The wife having no income is forced to dig into his affairs and starts finding things (and dangers) that she really wasn't expecting.

The book was well written and engaging. A good performance by Julie Maisey too - except perhaps for the few seconds of a Northern Irish accent!

Right riveting read but hate pets being involved

I really enjoyed this book, loved the insight into an author's life and also very unusual plot and did not see the twist coming.
I do hate cruelty to animals being mixed up in otherwise solid murder mysteries and using them as an expendable device to ramp up the suspense to my mind is just a lazy short cut and I hate my enjoyment of a book being spoiled by dreading just how and what and when this emotional pawn will be dispatched.
Lucky overall this was not a gory or over violent book, and while murder itself is not a matter to be taken lightly in the real world, with so much real and casual cruelty to animals I do think it really does not help to create more fictional animal abuse just to casually create added drama and menace as a subplot when it is a horrible and serious crime itself.
I did not particularly like any of the characters but it was a good and very involving story. Narrator not one of my favourites but she did do a good job. Would try another Paula Daly book if the setting/outline appealed and I am tempted by "The mistake I made" but wary due to mixed reviews. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a good thriller now I know there was nothing too sadistic or upsetting in it.

OK... Bit disappointed,seem to drag on.<br />

I found this story by Paula Daly really difficult to connect with. I did not really invest in the plot I thought it was sadly dull with a few good bits here and there.

Absolutely brilliant.

I’ve listened to a few audio books over the recent week, but my goodness, this tops them all. Absolutely brilliant. Full of twists & turns. Finished it in 3 sittings (or long dog walks!)
Would highly recommend.

Good book and it's true

Good a bit of a struggle about half way through but then you get back into it and can't wait to get to end to see wot happens
