Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Only Human by Sylvain Neuvel, read by a returning cast.

We always thought the biggest threat to humanity would come from the outside. We were wrong.

As the human race picks up the pieces of destruction left behind, a new world order emerges. New alliances are formed. Old divisions are strengthened. And with a power struggle fuelled by the threat of mutually assured destruction, nothing is certain.

At a time when the world's nations should have been coming together, they have never been more divided. With the human race teetering on the brink of total war, Rose, Vincent and Eva must choose sides. But doing the right thing might mean making the ultimate sacrifice.

A perfect end to the trilogy

I've been an Audible user for years and this is the first time I've been moved to write a review. The Themis Files audiobook (and book) is one of the most immersive literary experiences you could have. A great cast delivers outstanding performances that enrich an incredible story that explores what it means to be human - in an exciting and entertaining way. The story is told through the use of documents, letters and interviews, and the pages/chapters are brimming with pop culture references. Great characters, great story and great delivery - well done to all involved! Yes, it would be fait to say that I enjoyed it.

BRILLIANT!

This whole trilogy has been superb. I'm actually not a Sci-Fi fan at all, but these are wonderful. Worth a listen, but start at book 1. great casting and performances too!

excellent scifi

a really thought provoking final piece in the Themis files. wonderful story telling throughout and thr narrative means, piecemeal articles and transcripts, made this a thoroughly enjoyable listen. the full cast production adds a real sense of nuance to some of the drier scenes, and was well executed. recommend this and the previous two, Waking Gods especially.

Nice to finish - but not great

It is the worst by far.

Major flaw, why does Eva have a New York accent? Terrible, and so irritating.

Nice to finish the trilogy, but a hard slog. Looking forward to moving on to something better now.

The accents of the Ekt are also hard to listen to. Feel this would maybe be a better read book than audible.

Overall ok.

Great story, shame about the voices

I loved the first two books of this series so I was eagerly awaiting the third and final instalment.

Whilst I found this book a good conclusion to the trilogy, I found the change of some of the characters voices a bit jarring. I liked the actor who portrayed rose in the first two books, and found it difficult to get used to the new actress (she was god though, just different to my ear!). The complete change to Eva (I accept there had to be a change as she was older) was a bit too far for me. She went from a highly accented (slightly annoying to be fair) character waking gods, to a annoying wired New York-esque drawl which varied through the book.

However, that being said. I still listened to it in two days so it wasn’t something that I couldn’t get past.

Great trilogy.

Not the best book of the series but still

Not as engaging as the others but still well worth a go but some of the acting was just irritating I know they were following how the book outlined the speech patterns but a pain anyway

Good wrap up, but not much more.

I literally loved the first to installments! But the last book fell a bit short. All the mystery and surprises in finding out what it all meant, painting a picture like their where God's beyond earth all went flat when the ekt where introduced. A should read for those who liked the first two books.

Why does Eva have a New York accent

This book was not as full as the first two. It’s like half a book, but necessary to complete the story. Maybe padded out a bit, too. Loved the first two books.

Loved the narration of Vincent in all the books. But there are a few problems with the narration of this one, that were disappointing. These were not problems in the first two books.

Why did Eva, who was born and raised in Puerto Rico sound like she was from New York? It was like a caricature, very distracting. Every time she spoke I was annoyed. I loved the narrator that read Eva before. Who made that decision - the producer?

These actors are supposed to be narrators. There was so much shouting and overacting that it was annoying. Plus the shouting was actually painful with headphones, the sound suddenly went into the red! Who made that decision - the director?

Great end to a fantastic trilogy

I had been waiting for the last part of this trilogy, hoping it would not fail to live up to my expectations. And it didn't. No loose ends, a satisfying ending, brilliantly read once again. The whole trilogy drew me into its world, and often a listened to "just one more chapter", it is that much of a "page turner". Highly recommended.
