Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

What would happen if you were cycling to the office and just kept on pedalling?

Needing a change, Mike Carter did just that. Following the Thames to the sea he embarked on an epic 5,000-mile ride around the entire British coastline—the equivalent of London to Calcutta.

He encountered drunken priests, drag queens and gnome sanctuaries. He met fellow travellers and people building for a different type of future. He also found a spirit of unbelievable kindness and generosity that convinced him that Britain is anything but broken. This is the inspiring and very funny tale of the five months Mike spent cycling the byways of the nation.

Superb thought provoking and fascinating insight into Britain

Loved this book from start to finish. Reminded me of a much shorter bike trip I took from Sheffield to London in my teens where everyone I met couldn’t do enough to help out. Assuming people are good never resonated so well. Can’t wait to listen to Mikes next book. Highly recommended!

Fascinating adventure, written by a true wordsmith

This audiobook vastly exceeded by expectations. The amusing anecdotes kept me gripped and eager to continue. Mike's narration is superb; understated dry wit permeates his reading.
Highly recommended to anyone that likes adventure and/or has a sense of humour.

Loved it

Absolutely loved it - not my genre usually but at the end I felt I had just travelled around the UK and was as disappointed as the author to have arrived back after 5 months away.

Disappointing

Disappointing in several parts, which sound like a party political broadcast for the Green party. It's the opinion of the author and diverts the topic away from the bike ride around Great Britain. A little humility would not go amiss. Overall it's OK, but it makes me feel sad when the criticisms of authority are mentioned. I'll steer away from books by this author in future, after all, I pay for audible readings to keep me entertained.

Superb

Really enjoyed this listen. Felt as if I was also on the journey. Now can imagine the places I have heard of but not been to. Made the listen even more special because Mike Carter narrated the journey himself. Did he ever go to Argentina?
