About this listen

An opposites attract lesbian romance about winning the beautiful “straight” girl you never stood a chance with back in high school.

Hollywood darling Mallory St. Cloud has it all: An Emmy, Grammy, and now an Oscar. She’s forty, feted, fabulous…and empty. On a whim, she leaves LA for Maplecrest, Pennsylvania, the hometown she fled when she was eighteen.

Dependable Andi Grainger, owner of Maplecrest’s successful handy business Chicks with Tool Belts, is startled to see her famous former best friend back in town.

Soon, it’s as if their friendship never ended. Mallory discovers the connection she’s been missing in her shallow social circle. But Andi has to deal with the fact her straight, gorgeous, unattainable friend, the subject of Andi’s hopeless teenage crush, is right in front of her again.

Except…Mallory’s not quite so straight anymore. And there’s a whole lot of pain beneath the surface they’ve been tiptoeing around. Is it time to be honest with each other at long last?

attributes to make a writer great:: to write great stories in different styles, saphfic yes, but each book is set in varying sub-genres. Rita has mastered this, and I hope she continues, as each new story is a wonderful surprise.
this is friends to lovers but from childhood to graduation of hight school , there is over 20yrs separation as malory builds her entertainment career. there is longing, family angst, bereavement, friendship failure, and long torment to reconciliation, life can be hard but rewarding

a great writer

Rita Potter creates beautiful connections throughout this novel. It’s sumptuously slow, but the characters resonate with authenticity and charm. The low angst, sweet book I needed to bring some hope and joy into this world.

I really enjoyed the narrator’s performance.

Gorgeous slow burn

I bought this audiobook because it was written by Rita Potter, 'Hide No More' and The 'As We Know It' series are really good and are amongst my favourite audiobook's ! This book however is bordering on boring, and if I had not returned another audiobook less than a year ago I would return it ! The 2 MC's got on my nerves and I could find little empathy with them. The narrator does a good job, although the way she translates the narrative links between the characters sounds a bit 'robotic'.
Sorry RP didn't rate this one very highly !
