Story
This is the age of addiction, a condition so epidemic, so all encompassing and ubiquitous, that unless you are fortunate enough to be an extreme case, you probably don't know that you have it. What unhealthy habits and attachments are holding your life together? Are you unconsciously dependent on food? Bad relationships? A job that doesn't fulfill you? Numb, constant perusal of your phone, looking for what? My qualification for writing this book is not that I am better than you, it's that I am worse.

Story
Dr Gabor Maté is one of the world’s most revered thinkers on the psychology of addiction. His radical findings - based on decades of work with patients challenged by catastrophic drug addiction and mental illness - are reframing how we view all human development. In this award-winning modern classic, Gabor Maté takes a holistic and compassionate approach to addiction, whether to alcohol, drugs, sex, money or anything self-destructive. He presents it not as a discrete phenomenon confined to a weak-willed few but as a continuum that runs through (and even underpins) our society.

Great Meditation Scripts

Summary
One Breath at a Time: Buddhism and the Twelve Steps has established itself as a classic, a bellwether of the most significant recovery movement of the 21st century, combining Buddhist mindfulness practices with a 12-step recovery program.
Published in 2004, One Breath at a Time has never lost its place as the best-selling Buddhist recovery book. We are proud to present an audio edition of this transformative work.
What gives the book its enduring value is Griffin's intimate and revealing tales of his own and other's addiction and recovery, combined with his unique capacity to translate traditional 12-step concepts like powerlessness, higher power, and character defects into meaningful contemporary terms. He explores all this through the lens of the core concepts of Buddhism: the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, mindfulness, loving-kindness, and more. The result is a book that has transformed the lives of thousands of addicts and alcoholics.
Narrated by Kevin himself, the audio version brings this classic book to life.

Narration is no problem ...
Not certain why people complain about the narration. If Kevin’s voice is not suitable for the narration of his own book, then Jack Kornfield is no less handicapped. I found the narration relaxed and appropriate for us anxiety-ridden types.

not enough thank yous
I had no idea my thoughts aligned with Buddhism. I thought I was just weird and different. i picked your book because I'm an alcoholic who is trying to recover. Everyone keeps telling me AA! You need AA! But I couldn't get past the religion no matter what. So I came across this Audible book and it was like an epiphany! What? There is an entire group of people that believe in Buddhism and its the same basic concept as how I feel. Have I been under a rock? maybe. Anyway, thank you a million thank yous for making this Audible book. It's been a great help to me. I plan on listening to it more than once.

There are no coincidences...
I’ve began this book two weeks ago, today I finished. Today also happens to be the day I am attending my first silent recovery retreat. His story and gentle voice was a pleasure to listen to. I feel I have better sense of mindfulness to bring with me. Where just yesterday I had anxiety and fear about the unknown of attending, today I have peace and acceptance. Last year was a long, tough learning experience in my sobriety and I can’t think of better way to move on from then to now, than how God has seen fit for me today. This will be a book I see myself going back to time and time again. Thank you, I wish you to experience love and kindness
