Summary

When your father is a literal monster, the last place you want to go is home.

Unfortunately, I wasn't given much of a choice. Following a five-year exile, I'm back in my childhood bedroom. Only, this time, there are silver bars on all the windows and vault locks on the doors.

In lieu of a homecoming party, my father is hosting a barbaric tournament to determine who will win my hand in marriage. And really, who wouldn't want to spend the rest of their limitless days with a blood-thirsty vampire fresh from a cage match? This is what dreams are made of, ladies!

Things go from bad to train wreck when my only ally gets herself kidnapped and I'm left with one of my would-be boyfriends after someone loses their head - I wish I was kidding - in my bedroom. I have to save my friend, watch my back, and keep my heart from chasing after my temporary partner in crime, all without landing in the crosshairs of whatever monster is terrorizing the Eastern Court.

Vamp Vengeance

Amanda Ronconi is a great narrator, she always makes any book better. The story was ok,I was hoping for more adventure and romance, but it played more like a mild soap opera.

Meh...

This was basically a book for people thinking it'd be cool to have vegan vampires. There just wasn't anything vampire about it other than calling them that just so you could be in that genre. Even taking out the useless part of calling people vampires there wasn't much a story. It was weak at best.

Disappointing Heroine.

Amanda Ronconi's usual panache can't save this story about a boring, self centered Vampire Princess; who takes her best friend turned servant for granted and basically spends most of the book sulking whining about her privileged life as a crown Vampire Princess.
I really wanted to like this book but really Lacey's consistent "Humble Bragging" and the predictable plot turns were such a turn off that I couldn't even bring myself to finish the book.
Le sigh.

Court Intrigue, Vamp Lite, Narcisstic Family Drama

I want to say out of the gate I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this story. I had not been a big fan of the character Lacey in the main Beechwood Harbor Magic Series but she was actually quite fun to watch in this and frankly I found her far less annoying than Holly in the main series. Like other reviewers mentioned the fact that this was about vampire's feels very secondary, more of an accessory than what you would assume for a vampire tale (The Originals for instance). Literally despite lots of mentions of fangs extending when people are getting angry no one is bitten in the whole tale, no one drinks blood from a human. Despite this to me the explanations of the politics and pageantry of the court system of the "vamps" was fun, engaging, and a breath of fresh air that was far different from the very familiar tread territory of Beechwood Harbor. Lacey is spoiled and often forgets her privilege but I think what was fascinating in this story was how much you see of the whole family and how much explanation and depth this provided to her character. The romance in the story is fine but again not very developed and I personally am tired of the whole "we only just met but am more in love than I have ever been before". I think this is especially eye rolling when you consider the life of a vampire, creatures who would live for centuries being so swept up, but I digress. There were some fun twists and excitement and again a whole new world to explore. This was no more formulaic that the other series and felt more interesting because so much was new. You get a happily ever after wrapped up almost too neatly but that is pretty standard for these books. Amanda Ronconi performs amazingly as always. I enjoyed the banter between the main character and her love interest there was a sense of holding their own. I do however get the sense that this book is a one and done, I would be surprised if this has a second volume so I am curious if Haven Paranormal Romance Series will refer to romances that happen outside of Beechwood Harbor. Also if you want to read Beechwood Harbor Series this would fall after book 5 Lucky Witch. If you enjoy Danielle Garrett's other series and are interested in a totally different environment and new world to explore I think this will satisfy. If you are expecting something deeply vampiric on par with The Originals I think you will be disappointed. The fangs here are mostly window dressing for a standard slightly supernatural cozy and not as much mystery as soap opera intrigue in the court. To me fun and easy and a breeze to listen to at 1.5 speed.
