Summary

Remembering the dead will always give them life.

The coveted Morrígan’s staff is up for sale on the black market to the highest bidder, and SOA Special Agent Patrick Collins will do whatever it takes to ensure the Dominion Sect doesn’t get their hands on it. Returning the weapon to its rightful owner is another step on the long road toward clearing Patrick’s soul debt, but he won’t walk it alone. Jonothon de Vere won’t let him.

Obeying the gods means Patrick must travel to London. For Jono, it means facing a past he thought he’d left behind forever. His return to England isn’t welcome, and neither is their pack, but Jono and Patrick will face the antagonism together. Politics aside, their priority must be the mission, but the bone-chilling secret they uncover in the London god pack will have far-reaching repercussions no one can ignore.

A race against time takes Patrick and Jono from the streets of London to the bright lights of Paris, where hospitality is thin on the ground, the air is filled with whispered prayers for the missing, and the Morrígan’s staff will end up in the one place it should never have gone - a graveyard.

For beneath Paris lie the long-forgotten dead, and when they rise to walk again, the living can only hope to die.

On the Wings of War is a m/m urban fantasy with a gay romantic subplot and a HFN ending. It is a direct sequel to A Vigil in the Mourning. Listening to the first book in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one.

A fantastic series

I am really enjoying this series, great plot, lots of action and the characters are great. I've just discovered there is a book seven coming out in October. I'm thinking whether I should listen to the next book or wait until book seven comes out in audio.

OMFG I can't wait that long for the next book!!!

Argh! I need the next book now!! A world and story like no other, this world will draw you in, twist you round, thrill you, scare you, entice you and leave you begging for more (like always)! This feels like a massive turning point in this ongoing storyline and I can't wait to see what happens next. While not a cliffhanger as such the ending shocked me and left me with many questions. I love the whole God pack but loved seeing Wade come into his own a but more. So much happens and over a few different countries, this is another fantastic installment that has left me itching for more!!!!

Love it, love it, love it.

This series has blown my socks off, if I think back to Gary at the beginning of this narration I wasnt that fussed, Since then I've only heard him get better and better..
I love it, totally the book to read is good to listen to amazing, I think I'm onto my 4th run atm.
I have such a rotten short term memory I get to listen and find new things that I've forgotten each time.
Maybe they are new or maybe my memory is just that bad, I forgot how good it was.. Either way anyone who is a fan of this author's work, really needs to listen to Gary narrating this series.

Utterly and Completely Blown away and in AWE

Let me start first with the story, the author has created one of my most loved stories ever, I can fall into the words in this book and get utterly and completely lost!! It has one of the best world building I have ever seen, and the characters grow and become more and more amazing with each page, I love this story.

Then the audio version is completely out of this world, the narrator at each and every turn brings the book to life, an enthralling tale that when listening to it you find things you missed in the reading. I love how he remains consistent throughout with the voices.

I highly recommend this audio to everyone!!

5 Even Better the Second Time Around Stars!!!

I've had the great luck to review both the ARC and the audio for this fantastic book and like the 4 books that come before—and that you definitely need to read beforehand—it gets better the second time around. Perhaps part of that is that I already know what happens so I'm not as surprised when sh*t hits the fan, which if you're familiar with Hailey Turner and the Soulbound series, you already know it's gonna happen or maybe it's because I tend to fast read through some parts and miss on them and audio allows me to focus on little clues, I don't know, I just know that it's no chore reading/listening these series has been a great experience for me.

I won't rehash my original review, I pretty much stand by it. I was super glad neither Patrick nor Jono did anything stupid, I love how they keep growing closer and Wade is the bomb. The writing is superb, the plot is brilliant and I can't wait for more.

Now on to the audiobook, Gary Furlong has done an amazing job throughout the series, especially considering how cast-oriented these books are. He gives each and every character a distinctive voice and somehow keeps up with them, even when there are more than 4 people in one scene. My favorites are Jono, Mr. Furlong's British accent is to die for, and Wade, because, well, he's Wade and he's perfect. LOL

If you can, do yourself a favor and get this in audio, I'm certain you won't regret it.

Great world building and voice performance

Ok, let it never be said I didn't love the relationship between the two characters here. Both men are intriguiging in their own right and their relationship is wonderful and nurturing. However, the standout thing for me in this story is the unbelievably complex and wonderful tapestry of a world this author keeps devloping and adding to. The world itself is a major character in the story for me. Many authors try to blend history, mythology, magic and politics but not many can pull off that blending by letting us experience the world along with the characters and learn about it through them with nary an information dump in sight. We get experiences in London and Paris here that are amazing and terrifying at the same time. Cannot wait for more stories set in this world and I don't care what characters are involved. Greg Furlong did a superb job with all the voices in this story. Just as the author put your right into the world, his voice creates a complete tapestry of that world in voices here.

Back to the chaotic world of the Gods

I have really enjoyed Hailey Turner’s Soulbound series. That being said, I’m glad to hear it will be wrapping up with the next book (although I could be wrong). This series has had a wild arc, to be sure, but I think, with an ending in sight, I am better able to appreciate this book. Some of her fans might disagree and want the series to continue forever. This fifth book starts up directly after book 4 – in the wake of the disastrous Chicago incident. As Patrick says, “Chicago was not my fault.” Maybe not, but he does have a way of bringing chaos, mayhem, and massive battles to the streets. He’s barely finished with the Windy City when he’s tasked of rescuing the Morrigan Staff and ensuring it doesn’t land in the hands of his enemies. If the Dominion got the staff, all bets are off – so to speak.

So off to London he goes. Jono, his lover and soulbond mate insists on coming. There’s a price on his head should he return to London, but after Patrick was nearly destroyed in Chicago, Jono’s not taking any chances. Their dire Sage comes with them. Having a weretiger is always handy. And Wade comes along because, you know, comic relief in the form of an ever-starving teenage dragon.

There’s a lot going on in this book. New characters, old characters. New grudges, old grudges. I do my best to keep up but sometimes I’m just along for the ride. And, not to spoil anything, but the book does culminate in one of those epic battles. I’d expect nothing less.

So passionfruit macaroons, dragons, zombies, and Hermes. And chaos.

I enjoy these stories but I know I would get more out of them if I were familiar with mythology. Ms. Turner doesn’t just draw from Greek Mythology, but her characters span many countries, legends, and religions. She has truly done her homework, and I am the more knowledgeable for it.

Narrating this wild ride is Gary Furlong whose work I always enjoy. He’s done a great job with this series and I can’t wait for the next book. I want to see the final dénouement.

Captivating!

Now, this captivating book featured another adventure and more secrets discovered while the plot thickens and became more twisted and dangerous. Jono and Patrick found their bond stronger and their feelings for each other deeper. Of course the wonderful performance and voice acting of Mr Furlong helped with the ambiance enhancing the experience to read this book. I can't wait to read what is next specially after that last chapter! Simply WOW!

Incredible!

Hailey Turner is some sort of genius when it comes to these ridiculously interwoven plot lines. It seems like even the most irrelevant scene turns into a clue and every character is a puzzle piece. I loved this. I love all of her work.

Riveting and more!

Hailey Turner’s amazing series just keeps getting better.

I loved reading this via ebook but listening to Gary Furlong’s narration brings the whole experience to a different level. The story is clearer in my mind, the details more vivid, Wades antics are more hilarious, the fight scenes more magical and intense.

This is what happens when a brilliant story is being narrated by a brilliant narrator.

Now I’m off to listen to book six and I’m excited and nervous at the same time.

A fast paced, urban fantasy!

I love the world building of this entire series. Each book keeps getting better and better and I can't help but look forward to listening to them.

If you like a fast paced paranormal, urban fantasy setting you will love this.
If you like an action packed romantic, fantasy mystery, I do recommend this.

Gary Furlong has performed an exceptional audio delivery as well.

annoying

as much as just love these books I cant stand wade anymore. he's turned into a whinie little kid and it take the flow outta the story. it's almost like the rider purposely made Wade into a little child to stop people from wanting to listen to the book every time his character comes up in the story I want to stop listening

Totally entrenched in this series!

These books just get better and better. This is book 5, though I can't believe it because the flow is so seemless.

Don't even bother with this if you haven't started the others; this is not a series you can just jump into the middle of. The world-building is dense and thorough and the story arcs continue from book to book.

The NY god packs keep having these small battles, but most of the book takes place in London and Paris; this arc really takes a backseat. I love the ongoing love story of Jono and Patrick, and how they both mentor Wade like big brothers. There are many returning characters and a few new ones thrown in. I was still a little lost during some battle scenes--maybe those are better read than listened to? Still, it wasn't as confusing as the one with all the Celtic gods. I am now desperate for book 6; BIG surprise at the end of this one!

Gary Furlong does a great job. He nails it with Patrick and Jono, and even Wade. He doesn't merely read the book, but brings it to life. I won't be able to read these after listening to his masterful performance.

I highly recommend this entire series, and especially this contribution. Can't wait for the next one!

Best yet!

This one has such great pacing and seemless action - do you need more of a sell than: Zombie Invasion and absurd amounts of property damage?
Furlong did an exceptional job too with attention to details (making Patrick have less accurate French pronunciation than Jono for example.)
If you've followed the series this far, you'll love this one!

The Pack is going on a trip!

So it's June and the new info Patrick got in the previous book about The Morrígan staff requires that Patrick, the Pack and Lucien fly to London for the auction in which it'll appear. And since this is Patrick we are talking about AND the Morrígan staff, a War and Death Goddess, all hell breaks lose, LITERALLY! And they'll follow it to Paris.

Hailey delivered another amazing installment and she went all on the gorey bits! It's amazing seeing the Pack all together, working together, fighting together and bonding more so each time. The best thing though is how Jono's steadfastness and perseverance, with no bitterness or resentment, continuously work in chipping away Patrick's walls, knowing that even though Patrick hasn't said the "I love you", his "I'll come back" and actions (well actions when it comes to them, not blowing up city blocks) speak it louder. I seriously teared up in Wade's absolute faith in Patrick, Jono and their pack when Patrick asked him to shift mass and that no harm whatsoever would come to him when what he was would be revealed. And the twist at the end! I want to be happy about it for Patrick (although his feelings weren't clear on it) but I'm pretty sure that it won't all be sunshine and roses.

P.S.: No one can say that Patrick didn't try here to minimize damage, but what is a mage to do when a hoard of zombies is coming your way?
P.P.S.: OMG! I love Wade and his bottomless pit of a stomach.

setup for the next book

I really do enjoy this series but the chapters in Paris just seem forced as I'm used to a more immersive story from this author. Instead I kept on having to reread sections as I felt that I was being rushed through although that might be because the author was trying to push the urgency of the situation. I'm not going to ruin the ending for anyone but It makes it clear that this book is definitely laying the ground for the next one. So I look forward to the next.
