Story
He's not kept a diary for decades but here, in Dog Days, Andrew Cotter draws inspiration from the great Samuel Pepys; like him, he bears witness to the extraordinary everyday as the world tilts on its axis in our own unsettling era. And so, with Olive and Mabel at his side - actually, dawdling in the long grass or sleeping upside down - Andrew takes a clear-eyed, often hilarious walk through a year that encompasses all of life from the crushingly mundane to the decidedly odd.

Story
One winter's afternoon, Stephen Foster walks into a dog re-homing center with the intention of picking up a retired greyhound. Instead, he acquires an abandoned lurcher pup. Foster's knowledge of dogs is so vague that he has to look up 'lurcher' in key reference work The Giant Book of the Dog, to find out what sort of animal is coming to join the family. His research counts for little: the new arrival does not conform to any known breed standard, or indeed any standard whatsoever that might be considered dog-normal.

Clare Balding grew up in a rather unusual household. As her father is a champion trainer, she shared her life with more than 100 thoroughbred racehorses, mares, foals, and ponies, as well as an ever-present pack of boxers and lurchers. As a toddler she would happily ride the legendary Mill Reef and take breakfast with the Queen. She and her younger brother came very low down the pecking order. Left to their own devices, they had to learn life’s toughest lessons through the animals, and through their adventures in the stables.

By telling Nigel's story, Monty relates his relationships with other special dogs in his life in a memoir of his dogs past and very much present.

Dogs have been the common link between the key moments in Nicky Campbell's life: there was Toby, the dog he never knew and who sat devotedly by his cot before his adoption, and then the adorable fox terrier Candy, who arrived soon after he was happily adopted. Nothing could replace the loss of Candy when he died suddenly, when Nicky was 11.

Bobbie the Wonder dog crossed more than 2,500 miles of plains, desert and mountains to find his way home - and became the inspiration for Lassie. Cher Ami the pigeon, despite being shot twice, delivered a message that saved the lives of 194 soldiers in 1918. Trakr the police dog spent two days exhaustively searching Ground Zero and found the last survivor of the 9/11 attacks. Ever since Alexander the Great named a city after the horse who saved his life in battle (and another after his dog), human history wouldn't be the same without the awe-inspiring tales of amazing animals.

Every dog wants to behave well for you and make you happy, but whether they're being diverted by fear, stress or uncertainty, something is stopping them. Enter: the Dogfather. Having worked with more than 5,000 dogs - from Great Danes to Chihuahuas and everything in between - he has seen every behavioural issue going, whether it’s aggression, house destruction, refusal to obey commands or extreme anxiety.

Summary
"Beautifully written...as funny as you would hope." (The Times)
Olive and Mabel: two of the internet's favorite dogs!
Andrew Cotter: one of our best-loved commentators.
Olive and Mabel are the Labradors that broke the internet. With more than 50 million views on social media, Andrew Cotter's brilliant commentaries on videos of his Labradors have resonated with dog owners and sports fans around the world, giving us all something to smile about in this most testing of years, as Olive and Mabel entertained us with their dinner contest, Game of Bones, Zoom meeting, online dating, and more over the last six months.
Now, in Olive, Mabel & Me, Andrew tells the heart-warming story of life with his two famous Labradors. This is the full story of their unexpected rise to internet stardom, their lives together, how the dogs are dealing with their newfound fame (celebrity fans, more offers of biscuits, etc.), and how trips to the beaches and the mountains help them all find peace and happiness away from a hectic world.
Above all, Olive, Mabel & Me is a book about the love we have for our dogs and the companionship and joy they bring and about how we can all benefit from being just a little bit more Labrador!
Brilliantly observed, touching, and laugh-out-loud funny, Olive, Mabel & Me is a treat for dog lovers everywhere.

Wonderful, uplifting, man & canine life exposed!
Having followed Andrew, Olive and Mabel's exploits on YouTube, I was delighted to find the Audible edition of this book.
I am not ashamed to say I love Cotter's mellifluous tones, his cadence when broadcasting is, in my opinion just perfect and while the book has a faster pace, it is still a most enjoyable listen.
The book is interspersed, where appropriate, with audio from some of the YouTube films, which is as delightful and entertaining to listen to, as it was to watch.
There is a strong autobiographical theme to the book which adds to the joy. I had wondered how several very entertaining episodes of film could make a book. The resultant combination is, to use a Labrador "foodie" analogy, like sitting down to a good Glasgow Indian curry, with all the trimmings!
Cotter's love for animals is evident throughout the book. His comment on cats is hilarious and true! Having been a cat owner, I can testify to that, especially their use (or not) of the Green Cross Code and, the often sad results, of feline ignorance of the way of traffic . . . stopping mid-lane to sniff the air . . .
This is a book I will be returning to for a lift to the spirits, a good laugh, and thumping good entertainment.
Thank you, Andrew for Olive, Mabel and You😃

A delightful listen
I loved hearing Cotter’s book read by the writer himself, and enjoyed listening to it immensely - while out walking our own Labrador, no less. I laughed out loud many times, earning lots of side-eye glances from other walkers. An absolute pleasure and delight. And make sure you listen through to the very end of the credits! ;-)
